It says in the liner notes that barbara came to jazz relatively late in life. I don't remember when in her life that was all I can say is that you can't tell it from listening to this record. She sounds like (and is) the "reaL thing". She's got a great voice and her song selection is as good as it gets. She's not at all pretentious or overwelming to listen to and the recording often has the intimate feel and urge to make each song happen that you usually only get at a club appearance. It's may be to early to start declaring that Barbara is a major talent even though I think she is but, no matter what, this is a major recording. If you like the songs on here you are going to love the performance Barbara gives them. Happy listening.

Barbara Adamson has a wonderful, haunting voice, and the top-notch band really complements her swinging style. Together, they take standards and give them a new twist that is both ingenious and completely original.

A must-have for any serious jazz fan--or anyone that loves great music.

This CD is very easy to listen to.. The arrangement of Bye Bye Blackbird is especially inovative and Bass led.
