Ha!,

This review is from: Now We're Having Fun! (revised edition) (Paperback)
Ok. The grammar may not be the best (as pointed out by a reviewer of another book), but I'm not sure it's meant to be. Leonard writes in a very conversational style. His humor is dry and lightly self-deprecating. Leonard and his wife, Plum (short for Sugar Plum), live dozens of miles from the nearest road on the banks of the Salcha River near Fairbanks, AK. Leonard's stories are of life in the Alaskan bush (although with an indoor toilet, his bush life is more luxurious than many) written with a talent for understatement and painting great verbal pictures. Leonard's tone, at face value, reflects the bravado and machismo stereotypical of a sturdy Alaskan outdoorsman but, through hyperbole and his dry humor, he simultaneously makes fun of that stereotype. I found Leonard's book to fulfill the cliche of "laugh-out-loud funny", something I don't find frequently. "Now, We're Having Fun!" is easy, light-hearted reading - maybe even mindless. It's a terrific humorous escape from deeper thought and heavier topics. This book was pure fun to read and I've added one of Leonard's other books, "Wild Life" to my wishlist.
