kudos to luther dickinson and his collaborators for tackling this project to promote southern roots music. the album contains an odd but charming collection of traditional and contemporary songs, all of which, however, have southern roots. All songs are performed with traditional instrumentation and arrangements giving the album a uniformly authentic retro feel. The album was apparently recorded over a period of only 3 days and perhaps as a result, some of the effort feels a bit disjointed. Nevertheless, the instrumental performances and vocal harmonies, in particular, are lovely and, overall, this is a welcome and most enjoyable addition to the american roots music revival movement.

The first thing you'll notice about The Wandering is their beautiful harmonies. The vocals are gorgeous and stunning. The musicianship is also strong. As much as I love Luther's guitar, for me the standout instrument is Shardee Thomas' fife. Otha would be proud! It's a bit of a curious mix of songs, mostly traditional, with some more modern selections sprinkled throughout. Overall, I'm really enjoying this CD, and it definitely stands up to repeated listenings. I'm really glad I picked it up.

Proud to be living amongst such talented artists in the Memphis area. All members are talented individually, but they work great together in harmony as well. If you like folk music, this is a must buy.

This listening is my first introduction to The Wandering. I like the tunes, the music and the singing. I would share this with my friends and family.

I bought this album simply because I am a fan of the North Mississippi All-Stars and gospel/soul music. I was a little skeptical to see how the two styles would (or not) meld together. In all, I was pleasantly surprised. This album reminded me a lot of the Blind Boys of Alabama - very good gospel music with some blues thrown in. If you are a fan of this music or you think you might want to start listening to this music and want a good entry-level album, I recommend!
