About the Author

Jan Reed-Givhan graduated from Spelman College, in Atlanta, Georgia, and later taught speech, English, and drama at St. Croix Central High School, in the Virgin Islands, for several years. She then moved to California, where she taught school in Lennox, attended The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and joined the Screen Actor's Guild. Her efforts paid off, as she was featured in several movies and television shows, as well as did voice work for theater and made-for-TV movie productions, as a member of the prestigious, The Looping Group. As part of her strong commitment to children's health, she supports organizations throughout America in the fight against sickle cell anemia, and has produced two educational coloring books and a video, with her family. She is married, has four children, and currently lives in Birmingham, Alabama.
