5.0 out of 5 stars The Scent of the Early 70's in Bossanova Land, March 21, 2003

I just picked up the recently remastered version of this album and I just love it. I don't own everything by her yet and intend to pick up everything. At the same time I am going of my way to get this one first because this album was the first to showcase her songwriting skills. "Take it easy, my brother Charlie" is such a chestnut. The tone of the album is soft with a touch of her signtature melancholy. It also features more festive type numbers. If you like "Pet Sounds" and Bossa Nova and like thinking outside of the box, I highly recommend this warm and mood-setting record. It sure doesn't hurt having Ron Carter or two members of Dizzy's band swing with her.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem lost through the quiet nights of quiet stars, October 27, 2006
This review is from: Now (Audio CD)
This album was Astrud Gilberto's second LP after the virtual disappearance of the Verve label.

This CD won't probably convert a lot of new fans. However, there are those who have previously been seduced by Ms Gilberto's incomparable rendition of smooth, soothing, relaxing and magical music: a gentle blend of samba, pop and the odd jazz inflections.
For these people, this CD will prove a delight.

I find it as fresh today as when I bought the original US LP in 1972. There is a mixture of English and Portuguese lyrics and Ms Gilberto authored or co-authored several tracks.
Eumir Deodato provided the first class musical arrangements and played alongside a small group of ace jazz musicians. I particularly enjoy the contribution from Airto Moreira on assorted percussions.

The sound has been carefully remastered from what were state-of-the-art recordings in the first place.

My own favourite songs are "Touching You" and "Daybreak" - pure bliss. There is not a dud track in sight and the only complaint is that the album might have been longer.
