AMAZINGThis Cd is the greatest thing the virus has put out. When I heard the virus's first CD " still fighting for a future" I thought it was pretty decent, spotlight tracks were "until we win, they lie, no time at all" The cd was agressive but some songs lacked energy over all the cd was 4 stars good. When NOWHERE TO HIDE was released, i have never heard such great agressive punk rock in my life. This new formation of the band is the best street punk combination ever. The vocals on this cd are phenomenal. The vocals are so agressive and destructive, yet they deliver a range of vocal variety that a lot of street punk bands dont have. This cd sounds very different from your average casualties, or varukers cd's. The guitar work on the album is incredible dealing killer solos and awesome guitar riffs with back up guitar in the background. The drumming is killer also. The drums in this recording have so much intensity they break all sound levels. One thing I love about this cd is that the lyrics dont focus all on politics/government that a lot of punk music does, instead it focuses on hardships of life and the anger and hate kids have to deal with. Some of the greatest tracks on this cd are So long, rats in the city, another day goes by, my life my world, working for the company, vicous rumors, already dead, the very last day. This is the greatest thing ever to hit street punk, bringing the UK 82 legend to new levels. DONT HESITATE TO BUY THIS CD!!!! BUY IT!!!! ITS THE GREATEST!!!! MUST HAVE@!!!!!

The Virus is a band with a sound that doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. It's straight up street punk that sounds like the millions of local bands that you can find playing at the bars every weekend in downtown (insert your city here), but will never get signed. It's good to see that in such a huge scene of undiscovered talent, somebody actually got to sign a record deal and make a CD to be released on the nationwide level.
They picked a good one too. From start to finish, a 26 or 27 minute period, this CD delivers the goods. What I love most is how their is such a rough and edgy sound complete with blasting drums and incredible speed, and yet the guitar breakdowns or intros are so catchy that they wouldn't be out of place in an MXPX song. Paul's vocals are really what makes this CD the best that this band has to offer, since Mike was... eh, so so at best. Paul is a little more blunt and he sounds more mature and also more angry at times, which is perfect for songs like "The Very Last Day," which could easily be the background music for a fistfight or a street riot. His lyrics are better too and cover a variety of topics instead of just the typical "I'm punk, I'm punk, let's get drunk and kill the government" The bass isn't the driving force behind this band but it has its moments on songs like "Working for the Company" and "My Life My World" Drawbacks to this CD, there is one main one. I was on the fence between 3 or 4 stars when I rated this and ultimately decided that the drawback didn't take away more than one star. My friend Cory pointed out that a lot of their songs have a similar sound in a sense of guitar structure and breakdowns, and I'm not just talking about the typical metalhead ripping on you for listening to punk with the "every song sounds the same" ordeal. On this CD, there are a lot of songs where you can't help getting a feeling of deja vu. But, this issue only arrises because every song DOESN'T sound the same. For example, if you heard a song like "Heroes," and then "Nowhere to Hide" they are a lot different in sound. The only issue is that there are about 6 songs and 12 tracks, so each one gets used a few times and it has a redundant sound. Overall I still say this CD is awesome. The standout tracks are "So Long" "The Very Last Day" and "My Life My World" In my ventures with this band the only thing that I regret is that they broke up when I was like... 12 or so, so I'll obviously never get to see 'em live. Bet they were pretty amazing.

This is the Hardcore Street punk album ive ever heard, every one is diggin the Unseen and telling me how good they are but the Virus s**t all over those dudes. It probably deserves 5 stars but Its to hard to say. I really dig this guys voice, thats probably why it stands out more that other HC street punk ive heard, You can actually understand him very clearly and yet he still yells, not only that, the songs have a good tune so it doesnt sound just like noise going 100 miles per hour. all you 'street punks' will love it and any one into HC rock and roll (fwark the emo, scremo, poppy, boys night out crap) just buy it if you like fast angry quality music with a message.
also check out Clit 45 and Union 13.(not as good as these guys tho). |
