Product Description

The final book in the Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs series begins with outlaw Jerry Staute finding himself temporarily unemployed, after his boss decides things are getting too hot for his smuggling runs in the mountains of North Carolina.

Fortunately, a better driving job appears to be in the offing for Staute. But while waiting for that call, he adds a new item to Shadowfast's already impressive array of road war armament: a nitrous oxide system.

Staute visits his friends at college to show off his new toy. But those plans are spoiled by a challenge from a stranger: the owner of a V-12 Ferrari. After Staute agrees to a European style race, one of the best Ford versus Ferrari showdowns ever ensues.

Sometime later Staute is enjoying one of the perks of that better job: plenty of time off. In this case Staute uses it to accompany an old friend on an auto parts search. This brings Staute face to face with one of the crime kingpins of his hometown, and one thing leads to another, until soon Staute finds himself embroiled in a fight for his life against a large criminal horde, that includes old foes from battles past, as well as a professional hit-man from out of town.

The combat begins with an interstate ambush, and Staute gets trapped on a lengthy but dead end highway in the Tennessee sticks, forced to fight his way back out again, or else.

Staute and his mechanical steed manage to survive that battle; but unbeknownst to them, their next challenge will be their last. With an almost supernatural visitation serving to herald the event.

This review is from: Nowhere To Go But Up (The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs) (Kindle Edition)
I've really enjoyed the unique Shadowfast books. There have been shootouts, tornadoes, some unbelievable races against Ferraris and Daytona Chargers, hairy encounters with loose-cannon cops, episodes of infatuation and even love.

Part of this installment documents the modifications made to our hero's Windsor-powered Mustang. The last half relates the story of Shadofast's demise in a wild nitrous-assisted Road Warrior shootout.

There are no other books like these out there, so far as I know. If I find more, I'll buy them.

Henry Brown is the author of TEOTWAWKI aviation adventure The Delayed Blitz(Krieg), as well as the military thriller Hell and Gone. He is the columns editor at New Pulp Fiction, and does some blogging of his own at the Two-Fisted Blogger.
