4.0 out of 5 stars Troggs - 'From Nowhere' (Repertoire), August 19, 2006
This review is from: From Nowhere (Audio CD)
Nice CD reissue of the Trogg's very first album, originally released in 1966.Oh,the memories!Tunes I could hardly get enough of were "Wild Thing","Hi Hi Hazel",the over-looked(sort to speak)gem "Lost Girl","When I'm With You" and their cover of the frat rock staple "Louie Louie".Wish I had a dime for every band that covered this tune. Also, the CD's five bonus tracks are pretty good, liked the way they're all in mono.Long live the first British Invasion!A good find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Album!, March 24, 2005
This review is from: From Nowhere (Audio CD)
In April 1966 The Troggs suddenly "From Nowhere" appeared on the beat-scene. "Wild Thing" written by Chip Taylor was an instant world-wide hit. Actually the single was really their second; their first "Lost Girl" which is also included here, was a minor hit in Holland, but failed to chart in England.

"Lost Girl" was written by singer Reg Presley, who also wrote several of the songs on the album, as well as their two follow-up hits "With a Girl Like You" and "I Can't Control Myself" which are included as bonus-tracks.

The Troggs' trademark was their raw r&b sound, often with provoking lyrics ( this was the 1960's!! ). This album is dominated inspired and catchy R&B tracks. It's well-deserved that the band got the reputation of being one of the very first punk-rock bands.

But they also were capeable doing nice ballads; on this album "Our Love Will Still be There" and "Jingle Jangle" are good examples of this.

A classic 1966 release; one of the finest in the Troggs discography. Only beaten by "Cellophane" and "Athens Andover"

5.0 out of 5 stars midsixties primitive rock coolness, June 30, 2010
By
This review is from: From Nowhere (Audio CD)
This disc came literally from nowhere , it had the classic number one hit 'wild thing' on it , which is protometal or protopunk. The bands songs are rock to more bouncy pop rock often. On this one is the classic hit single as well 'with a girl like you' and 'jingle jangle' is a fantastic ballad that sounds like a christmas song almost! The boys had a nice punky snotty attitude on some songs and on others you'd say they were just rock. This one is worth having in your collection of classic rock and roll cd's. And the midsixties were a very fun time in musical history bands like these were a mixture of garage band and more so get 'wild thinging" and groove to the primitive rockin from 1966.
