5.0 out of 5 stars dogs eating people IS cool, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Nowhere [VHS] (VHS Tape)
arraki's teen apocalypse triology ends in the wonderfully lovely "nowhere".
of course, arraki's films always attract the WRONG audience so itll be hard for you to know which review to trust.
here's how to tell:
1. if the reviewer says an arraki film has "bad acting" - they dont get it.
2. if the reviewer's only positive remark involves their mastabatory fantasies - they dont get it.
3. if the reviewer uses the words "shock value".. well then they prolly used the term "waistoid" too...
4. if the reviewer thinks an arraki movie is supposed to LITERALLY depict REAL teenagers then they prolly are one and havent found "freaks and geeks" yet.

i dunno. seems to ME like the themes of unrequented love, surpressed homosexual desires and an empty feeling about being in the center of our world's commercialized nothingness are interesting, relatable and beautiful things.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all about "NOWHERE", October 25, 1999
This review is from: Nowhere [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have seen all of Greg Araki's movie from "The Living End", "Totally F**cked Up", "The Doom Generation", "Nowhere", and the newly released "Splenor" and "Nowhere" is the best of all!! It is the brat pack movie for the 90's. Besides "Clueless" this should be the most famous teen movie this decade. From the all star, stellar cast, to the music, to the outrageous sets and costumes. This movie has something for everyone, and the audience can relate to at least one of the characters, because not only are they loveable but they are, in a sense, real teenagers. When I first saw the film, though, I wasn't sure what to make of the fast paced, foul mouthed storyline, but the more I watch it, the more I understand and LOVE it! There are so many symbols and images beginning with each characters names such as the lead character Dark, that it makes you sit and wonder. Also I truly appreciate how every frame in that film looks like the director took a lot of time, thought, and effort into making it just right, so no time is waisted. Trust me, if you're not offended by teens telling it like it is then buy it. The cast alone is worth it. James Duval (ID4), Rachel True (The Craft), Kathleen Robertson (90201), Christina Applegate (Married w/ Children), Shannon Doherty (Charmed), Rose McGowen (Scream), Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Ryanne Phillippe (Studio 54), Heather Graham (Boogie Nights), and many, many more.....

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites, February 20, 2000
This review is from: Nowhere [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is perhaps one of my favorite movies, which probably makes me slightly disturbed, but I can't help it. The movie, while really dark and very disturbing, is a pinpoint portrait of the disillusionment of teenage life. Shot through the eyes of Dark, it tells the stories of different teens and their search for love. Of coarse, since this is the 90s, the search many times leads to S&M, Homosexualality, heroin usage, and others that I don't want to give away. Of coarse, this is only what I THINK it's about, since the movie doesn't follow a clear plot line. It's extrememly artsy, very trippy, and has awesome directing, cinemetogrophy, and acting. VERY VERY WORTH IT.
