Biography

Janus - is an ancient, two-faced Roman god of gateways and beginnings. Also the root word of January, Janus is a mythological figure that looks both forward and back and symbolizes change and transformation.

To their fans’ dismay, in mid-2008 JANUS disappeared from their hometown rock scene in Chicago...they secretly slaved away on a new project. This project was to be ... Read more in Amazon's Janus Store

Editorial Reviews

Nox Aeris is latin for night air and references the plague years. The man made fear of believing that the night air itself in swamps and the city ghettos could give you the plague epitomizes the darkness that consumed these people. The second full length record from Janus is self-described by the band as "...dark but cathartic...it reflects all we struggled with and overcame as a band."

This album blew me away!

I did still like this album very much; some of the songs I like just as much if not more than some of the songs on rrr, such as stains.

Too bad they don't get more radio play but this is a really great album and I highly recommend it!

I really like the sound of Janus, so I figured I'd like the CD, but it is soooo much better than I anticipated. I listen to it all the time. Well worth $10!

Five out of five out of five... This album is the perfect marriage between strings and percussion, accented by the melodic vocals of lead singer David Scotney. I highly recommend this incredibly well-written album to anyone who appreciates true rock music :-)

I first heard these guys in a radio cockfight against Hurt. I voted Hurt being one of my favorite bands, however I wish I could resend my vote. I re-listened to the track again, and thought that's pretty good. So I bought the album. One of the best albums I've listened to all year! Lifeless is by far my favorite track. But it you like the single, you'll like the entire album. Full of emotion, good dynamics, also while listening to it I can't help but think that it's got a concept or story that ties all the songs together. Just buy the damn album already and stop reading this.

Not as good as red right return in my opinion. It was heavyer though so IF you like heavier rock than rrr then you'd like this album more than I did. I did still like this album very much; some of the songs I like just as much if not more than some of the songs on rrr, such as stains. But I loved EVERY song on RRR so I'm biased in this album b/c I expect the same. Worth the buy to be sure though!

If you're a follower of alternative rock then you should like this album. Blending shrill screams and hard riffs with melodic singing, Janus brings both a familiar and new light to today's alternative rock. Most of the songs open with a hard blast from the guitar and then immediately calm down just to lead you into a chorus that stays in your brain long after the song has ended. The lyrics are pretty good too, a nice blend of dark and hopeful. Reading some of the other reviews I'm not delivering anything new with mine, but I think recognition for something good is deserved when it's present.

I am a pretty solid hard rock and metal fan, but I never paid Janus too much mind, even though they had some pretty catchy stuff that I heard on Octane and the such over the last few years. I happened upon this album, and came away pretty impressed. I had been listening to it on You Tube and decided to purchase it. Some of the other reviews have mentioned similarities to Tool, 10 Years, Chevelle etc.... I would agree that there is some resemblance, but I think this album certainly has its own nitch. It's really heavy with razor sharp distortion, and tremendous vocal muscle. Of course, I have to defer to long time fans of the band, but the music struck me as a pretty unexpected blast of ultra high quality hard rock. I am probably one of the few who don't like screaming on an album, and would prefer singing (I know, I know I am in the minority on this one nowadays), and it seems to that this album has a fair mix of songs without screaming and songs with... to satisfy a wide range of fans. Quite impressive. I would give these guys a shot definitely if you are on the fence. In my opinion, stand out tracks are Pound of Flesh, Lifeless, and Waive and Stains... come to think of it, I don't think I've heard a bad song on it.

I highly recommend it. An excellent album in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are so many garbage bands out there (it's nauseating)... Janus strikes me as a real unique blast of fury and sound. Thanks for reading.

I know I'll get some sh** for saying this from Janus fans, but I liked 3 songs from their first album. I thought the rest of the album was garbage (just my opinion). But I could tell they had potential. This album is so much better. I mean, more energy, more complicated, more along the lines of "Eyesore." Good work, boys! Think 10 Years meets Chevelle. Wow, I'm still surprised how much of an improvement this album is.

Don't think about it...just buy it. It's better than the first album, even though that one is one of my fav's. It is apparent that they had more money for production this time around. It sounds better and more depth to tracks. The whole album is awesome but to me Always Rains is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Boom. Done. Why haven't you downloaded it yet? Skimp on toilet paper if you have to save money do get this album. Sell your family. Do whatever it takes.
