5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Album
Kirk Franklin is one of the most influencial artists in gospel and contemporary christian music and is probably the most influncial artist of the late 90's/ early 00's. He infuses R&B, funk, traditional gospel, hip hop, and pop music in truly innovative way. He has been criticized and judged for being revolutionary, for not keeping God in a religious box. 1.0 out of 5 stars what!
my only question for Mr. Franklin is...what revolution are you talking about? God has already shaken up the world through his death, burial and resurrection. Just as His disciples thought He would overthrow the Roman empire, He instructed them that that was not His mission. But showed us His mission on the day of Pentecost, through giving the 120 the gift of the...

This album is the best response to this critics, he brings forth and album bringing traditional gospel artists (Donnie McClurkin, God's Property and Fred Hammond) with contemporary christian artists (Crystal Lewis) and Pop and R&B artists (Bono of U2, Mary J. Blige, and R. Kelly)for a truly revolutionary album. He blends old and new and never loses his sense of humor or lowers his standards. If more gospel music sounded like this, more people of all ethnic groups would listen to it. He brings gospel music to non-religious people. His next album is more humble but none of his albums are better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kirk Franklin and the Nu Nation, November 29, 2004
By
Mikeisha Best (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nu Nation Project (Audio CD)
Kirk Franklin is a musical genius. No one has ever done what he has done: This man has mixed gospel music with hip-hop and r&b and made it sound oh so good. He created a way for the younger generation to be able to enjoy gospel music in an effort to get something from it. I just want to give him his credit, because his credit is due!
The Nu Nation Project is a really nice album. A lot of people would argue that it is way too secular, but people have always said that about Kirk Franklin. This album has it's slow songs as well as the up tempo songs. The hip hop and r&b influences are heavily included, but they sound great.
"Revolution" was the album's first release. I love the way this song begins, with Kirk reciting a Bible scripture. I think this songs production was a bit corny, but the message is very relevant: changing the world. It is a fast tempo song and received heavy airplay. "Lean on Me" was also released and received heavy airplay. It features appearances by R. Kelly, Bono, and Mary J. Blige. This song is a ballad which says if you need a shoulder to lean on, you can lean on me. This song gets hard to listen to sometimes, but it's a really good song. One of the album's highlights is "Riverside". This song has good production and great lyrics. The choir is great in this song. It speaks of meeting Jesus by the riverside. "Hold Me Now" and "You Are" are simply beautiful. They are both slower songs and they are very easy to like. I can almost guarantee that potential buyers are not going to like every song on this CD, but it is definitely worth the $. I wouldn't consider any song on this CD a filler. Kirk obviously put a lot of time in this album and it shows. GREAT JOB KIRK!

Mikeisha's Top 5
1. Hold Me Now
2. You Are
3. Blessing in the Storm
4. He Loves Me
5. Riverside

This cd by Kirk is truly awesome, his song 'Lean on Me' is an awesome with Mary J.BLige, Crystal Lewis, R.Kelly. I'm singing this song with all my friends at a graduation. It shows that God's always there with you even when you don't think so.
-He's giving you his shoulder so you can 'Lean on Me'
you should definetly have this cd in your cd player.
-Peace out

When this cd first came out, I was all over it! The Lord moved through Kirk on this one. Lean on Me was a big hit, both gospel and secular, but it is definitely not the best song on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars God-filled of the Holy Spirit that you got to dance., November 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nu Nation Project (Audio CD)
I'm proud of Kirk because he is just so wonderful at praising God. I'm a Christian of the United House Of Prayer For All People(located on east and west coast along up in the north and down in the south)and I love getting my praise on and serving God because I have so much to be thankful for and that is what Kirk's doing, just thanking God for his mighty acts(Luke 19:37; Psalm 76:10).Some people call him wild because he likes to move around all over the place. They call him a secualr artist, a wanna be gospel artsit, they say he's trying to turn gospel into rap and r&b,and they even say that he's only in it for the money. But I know that is just not true because he wouldn't have so many millions of fans around this revolving earth( and I'm one of his big fans). He doesn't care about any negativity that goes on among the non-believers of the world. Now, that's what you call strong and perseverant. I love his c.d. and all 4 of his other c.d.'s that he's made. I know that I'm not alone when I say,"Kirk, you can certainly make your fans get their 'Praise On' while listening to your c.d.'s."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great example of Christian faith in music, July 31, 2002
By
Jake Stanley (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nu Nation Project (Audio CD)
Franklin brings the upbeat r&b style of his to Christian music for a great combination for The Nu Nation Project. His songs have cool beats and sounds in Number two, "Revolution" calming beautiful words in 'Lean on me' and example's of his great christianity in "Riverside", "Gonna be a lovely day", and "Blessing in the storm" If you are looking for clarity and faith in your life, there is no better way to get excited about living through Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously uplifting, June 19, 2000
This review is from: The Nu Nation Project (Audio CD)
I went to a small school in Baltimore. It was a Christian school. Everybody was talking about Kirk Franklin. BLAH BLAH BLAH Kirk...I thought it was stupid stuff. One day, I decided to go buy the CD to see what the hype was about. I can see it now! It is AWESOME! Every song to the other is spiritually uplifting. Revolution has a nice heavy rap beat. Lean on Me is very soft. Lovely Day is a very bright song. Hold Me Now is just a sad song. Praise Joint is a PRAISING SONG! IT'S JUST A FABULOUS CD! And, to those people that think Christian rap is bad, let me tell you something. People out there right now need the Lord. And if we need to get the message in rap, then that's how we're gonna do it! AMEN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you ready for a revelution?, January 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nu Nation Project (Audio CD)
Despite some negetive reviews, I think this is an awesome CD! The song revelution tells us that the church needs to stop talking religion and start talking about the Spirit! The line "The book of Revelation's coming" is so true. People need to reverse their lives and start focusing on God and not thw World. Will you be ready when the revolution comes?

Lean on Me sounds awesome. Christians who are tired of boring gospel music will love this CD and I think it is a great buy. There is nothing non-Christian about it.
