horrible,
This review is from: NuGo FREE Bar, Carrot Cake, 1.59-Ounce Bars (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I'm not picky at all - I"ll eat almost any of these bars, but this is inedible. One of the worst things I've ever tried to chew. YUK!

This is quite possibly the worst thing I've ever tasted in my entire life. Even upon first opening the wrapper, I was hit with an unpleasant chemical smell. Very unappetizing. I could barely swallow the first (and only) bite I took. It has a heavy cinnamon overtone, which I think is an attempt to mask the terrible taste of the thing. It is very hard, dry, and tastes like soap combined with three-week-old brown rice. If there was a contest to make a food item that tastes the LEAST like carrot cake, this would win, hands down.
I am so disappointed because I've tried other products by NuGo that have been really tasty. I hope I can send this back.

Nothing more to say here. I really had high hopes (i love carrot cake). This tastes like stale cereal that has been left out for 10 years, then freezerburned, and then coated with some fake chemical tastes. I am a HUGE fan of the Nugo organic chocolate bars (delicious!) which is why i am so surprised a company can make such a great product alongside this sorry excuse for a bar.

Tastes good and won't melt like chocolate,

These are the only dairy and soy free bars I can find that have about 9g. protien and taste good - all for a reasonable price of about $1.50/bar when you purchase them through Amazon (that has the best prices I could find on the internet). I like the dark chocolate and trail mix a bit better - but on a hot day, this bar doesn't have chocolate and won't melt in the car or my bag.

Pretty good gluten-free & dairy-free option,

I was surprised to find a GF & dairy-free bar at Starbucks when I was traveling, and I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a package from Amazon when I got home. They are kind of sweet and have a decent amount of protein. Apart from the sweetness, they might have a slightly health-foodish taste, but overall a good GF snack bar.

To find a gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free bar that tastes even remotely good, well, I thought it was impossible. Then I tried these bars. The first bite was a surprise, a little spicy. But I quickly became addicted to these delicious carrot bars. They're also great if you leave them for a while in a warm car! Also try the dark chocolate. I can't decide which ones I like better. I'm just glad I have something that I can carry with me that doesn't need refrigeration and actually tastes good and fills me up.

Edible, but only just,

I should start by saying that I eat the Nugo Free Dark Chocolate Trail Mix bar daily, often twice a day. A mini-meal with good protein that is edible and doesn't have soy is hard to find. I go through 4 boxes at least of the Dark Chocolate Trail Mix bars a month. Everyone in my family eats them.SO...I ate one of these in the sampler 3-pack I got directly from the company's website (a good way to start). The Dark Chocolate Crunch ones were OK, but as another reviewer described with these, there's definitely a stale cereal quality to them. The "carrot" "cake" "flavor", though: teeth-rattlingly sweet, no carrot flavor that I could discern, and definitely a strange taste. In short, not pleasurable. I've eaten my share of gross protein bars, raw food bars, and other products, and so my tolerance for things that aren't really the texture or flavor that food should be is pretty high. And I've certainly eaten worse. But I've eaten better, and I actively like the Dark Chocolate Trail Mix flavor. Certainly get a sampler 3-pack from the company directly if you're curious (I think they do free shipping, although the Amazon price is better for the cases). |
