Purchased this NuMax gun off Amazon a few weeks ago, and used it for a few days. The other reviewers are correct - this is a very good pinner for the price. It doesn't have the extras that a more expensive pinner (i.e. Cadex) might, such as a built-in blower or ability to use longer or slight headed nails, but it stands on its own as a very good basic nailer. It also costs about 1/8th to 1/12th as much.

Build quality is very good; there's nothing plastic-feeling about this tool. The grip is covered with a rubber-like material, and the gun feels solid and compact. It has a simple trigger safety which, once deactivated, leaves the gun essentially "hot" (no secondary safety), so use it carefully. As others have pointed out, most pinners will forego a contact dual safety system in order to facilitate placement accuracy.

In use, the NuMax pinner worked flawlessly. I've not had any jams at all. Each pin fired into the wood just below the surface, leaving a barely-visible puncture. I used it to hold bits of wood together while gluing, and it did a great job. There's no contact safety guard and very minimal recoil when firing, so the work pieces were not jarred or pushed out of place. I've used only the 1" pins, but expect that it'll work just as well as with the shorter pins. It simply does what it's supposed to.

I usually will buy only name-brand tools (most of my tools consists of DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Max) but will take a chance on lesser known brands now and then. Most of them have been disappointing. This NuMax pinner is a keeper!

Like the title says, a cheap but effective tool for fine wood finish projects. Unless you are making your living with your tools there is no need to spend over $100.00 more to get the same thing. This does not come with any nails as most of the nail guns I have purchased have so dont forget to go ahead and get some. Don't get over 1" nails as that is the longest this gun will accept.
So dont worry this one is not junk. I was hesitant to order but am glad I did.
Happy carpentry y'all!

For $28 paid, my expectations were very low. I was pleasantly surprised. It has worked perfectly, with only some small gripes. It lacks a rubber tip, so if you're not careful you can easily dent your trim. Also, when it runs out of pins it just keeps firing putting little pin holes in your trim before you figure it out. But, other than that, it performed great. It sinks the pins to perfect depth. I wasn't sure if I needed a pin nailer. Now I am sure. When this one goes, I will probably spring for one that fixes the above mentioned issues, but I do not regret this purchase at all. If you aren't sure, just pull the trigger and buy this one.

This is the first pin nailer that I have used. I have a couple of finishing nailers, a staple nailer and a framing nailer, so I am familiar with these types of tools. I found the pin nailer to be just the ticket for installing trim molding and wainscoting. I used the nails to hold the wainscoting and molding until the glue dried and it worked great. The best part was that I didn't have to caulk/fill the nail hole because the paint covered it, since it was so small. The only draw back was that I had to shoot 2 nails, at oblique angles to each other, to get a good hold. But on the plus side, it was easy to pull a part off to reposition it. I have given the pinner 5 stars mostly for the price and how well it works. Note, that it does "skip" a pin once in a while, but I would guess that others that cost a lot more probably do too.

I have used this nailer for just a few projects so far but it seems to work well. Only complaint is that I wish the nose of the nailer had some kind of rubberized tip to help with accuracy but there is so little kick back and the trigger is pretty sensitive so its not that big of a deal. Overall I would say this is a good value and does the job for me.

I've used this pinner on a few projects and overall I'm pleased with it. So far it's not jammed or malfunctioned and seems to set the pins to a uniform depth.

I have noted one thing I dislike. If you look closely at the picture of the tool, you'll see a small triangular piece of metal above the trigger. This is the safety. To operate it, you must poke your finger into the little space above the trigger and pivot the safety out of the way, allowing the trigger to move. Be aware that this is the only safety. Unlike most larger gauge air nailers, there is no device the prevents the tool from firing until it's depressed against the workpiece. Once the safety is moved aside, the tool's hot and will shoot pins whenever the trigger's depressed.

Aside from the safety system, I've been pleasantly surprised with the performance of this inexpensive little tool. If you're like me and have need for a pinner for occasional projects, I think you too will like this one. Just use it with caution!

The NuMax SP123 appears to be well made and so far it works well. The safty is near the trigger and once deactivated tool will fire so use good safty practices. Shoots 1/2" to 1" pins and for the money it is a great find.
