The NuTone QT9093WH combination fan/heater/light/nightlight combines a high-output 1500-watt heater with a 110 CFM ventilation fan and 100-watt lighting, warming your bathroom at the touch of a switch. B00084URME-QT9093WH-main
Combines a 1500-watt heater with powerful ventilation (view larger).

Offering quiet operation, the QT9093WH produces 3.0 sones of noise to ensure your bathroom remains peaceful. Crafted with galvanized steel and a die-cast zinc grille in white enamel, it's a suitable match for any decor no matter how many times you change the paint color. The bright incandescent lighting uses one 100-watt A19 lamp (not included), and its nightlight function (7-watt bulb, not included) has the perfect glow to light a dark bathroom during a nighttime visit.

This easy-to-install combination fan and light projects just three inches from the ceiling, and it includes detachable junction box with three wiring knockouts and a four-function wall switch. Other features include expansion-type hanger bars and mounting brackets, plus a built-in quiet, nonmetallic backdraft damper.

Why Spot Heating Makes Sense in Your Home

You hastily get ready every morning, head for work, the office, or school, just when the central heating system has finished warming the entire house. It's about as inefficient as it gets. Spot heating solves that problem. No longer will you heat an entire home when you simply need a bit of comfort in the bath or dressing room, or any other room.

Efficient Heating Element

Even the most efficient central heating systems send heat up the chimney. But NuTone spot heaters deliver every bit of energy back into your home. There's no external venting, so the electricity you convert to heat is delivered directly where you want it.

Simple, Safe, and Efficient.

Permanently lubricated motors are quiet and require no maintenance. They can be operated by a built-in adjustable thermostat or an optional wall-mount controller. Heaters may be converted in the field to a choice of wattages/voltages. And for safety, heaters are thermal overload protected and the complete heater assembly conveniently removes from the housing for cleaning.

Considerations When Choosing a Home Ventilation System

Homes are now built much more efficiently than they once were, making them far less costly to heat and air condition. That said, having proper ventilation throughout the home is now imperative in order to provide a safe and comfortable living environment. NuTone ventilation fans provide the best solutions to ensure that contaminants are constantly removed from the indoors.

Eliminating excess moisture keeps your home dry and comfortable and can help avoid mold and mildew. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) "outgas" from construction materials such as plywood, carpet, fabric, paint, adhesive, insulation, and other common items. Allergens, dust, cooking vapor, and what the kids bring home from school are more reasons why good ventilation is critical.

Sones measure the "sound level" of your fan

A sone is a measurement of sound in terms of comfortable hearing level for an average listener. The lower the sone value, the more comfortable the environment. Sones are not decibels or volume, but rather how sound is "sensed." One sone is half as loud as two sones, and is equivalent to a quiet refrigerator.

Calculate the air movement necessary for proper ventilation

Air movement is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). To determine CFM requirements, first determine the size of your room. Measure and multiply the length, width and ceiling height of your room to determine cubic footage. Then use the multiplication factor of .13 and round up to the next "ten." Here are three examples:

Example 1: Bathroom with 8' ceiling: 7' wide x 9' long x 8' high x .13 = 66. Select a bath fan with at least 70 CFM.

Example 2: Bathroom with 9' ceiling: 10' wide x 9' long x 9' high x .13 = 105. Select a bath fan with at least 110 CFM.

Example 3: For a bathroom with a vaulted ceiling, use the average ceiling height at the wall and the peak: 8' wide x 12' long x ((8' at wall + 12' at peak) / 2 = 10') average height x .13 = 125. Select a fan (or fans) with at least 130 CFM.

I was thrilled to find this combination light/heater/fan/nightlight. It was round in shape which was the shape of the light I was replacing, so mentally I felt comfortable and prepared. It also seemed a lot nicer than a lot of the other 'contractor grade' light/fans I was coming across. Also .. I paid quite a bit of money for the QT version, which is supposed to be the deluxe quiet version of the two.

First complaint ... when you look up at the light, you can see EVERYTHING inside the unit. Every wire. Every duct. Every everything. It would be fine if I lived in a loft with exposed construction ... but this is just plain ugly. Plus I can only imagine in a few years once the dust starts to accumulate that it's going to be a pain to keep clean. Take a good look at the photo of this unit. Those vents are very big and expose everything on the inside ... from every angle. And even moreso once the light is on and everthing is illuminated inside the ceiling.

Second complaint. It's not quiet. The heater is tolerable (although not quiet) but the fan is downright loud. It even sounds like something is flapping around inside. My electrician says that's just the way it is.

Two emails and a phone message to NuTone and I am unable to contact anyone about my disatisfaction. I get no response.

The fact that it only fit one way in my existing ceiling ... which pointed the heater away from my shower just adds to my frustration.

On the bright side, the heater is great. It takes a little while to heat up my bathroom, but we just duck out of bed, flip the switch and take a ten-minute snooze while it's warming up.

so Buyer Beware. I am extremely disappointed with this unit.

If you plan to install this in old construction you must have access to the space above to do the installation or forget it. The instruction manual is deceptive when it reads "NOTE: If necessary, housing can be installed from below by removing vent blower, vent housing, and outlet box." This is not at all true because the manufacturer did not design these parts to be reattached from inside/below the unit. I had to use self tapping sheet metal screws to put the unit back together once I did get the housing mounted in the previous same-size round hole.

That was after I spent an hour and two trips to the hardware trying to find a clamp that would hold the exhaust hose onto the unbelievably tiny flange they put on this unit. It might have been half an inch long (the nipple part that you attach and tape/clamp the hose to) which means whoever designed this has never installed one, ever. It should be a couple inches long.

Also when hooking up the electrical a lead came completely out of the "quick connect" plug supplied in the unit and it was under no significant strain. This is impossible to repair, really, but I did a hack soldering job to get it done. I should have requested a free replacement from Nutone.

And finally, you can't even change the light bulb without unscrewing the entire metal trim (large round vent piece) and dropping the whole vent trim. This trim is held on with only some threaded clips and two sheet metal screws and I don't predict a long life.

With all the complaints about noise, and with the obvious design flaws and misleading instructions, I would assume the manufacturer, unless they are in China somewhere and have no interest, should be about the work of a complete redesign for this unit, especially given the price.

Do not buy this unit!!!

I purchased this unit based on the need to have a bathroom exhaust fan that not only exhausted the bathroom but also have the capability to heat and light the bathroom as well. The night light included I considered being of little use to me but a good option to have for a family having little kids.

After installation, I can say that I would not recommend this unit to any household that is not willing to tolerate the extreme and excessive noise level generated by the exhaust fan as the level of noise is extremely loud and very aggravating.

This thing appears to be decently well made and looks much better than the vast majority of heater, vent, light combos out there. I liked the looks of it, and it goes well especially in MCM and retro interiors. I also read the other reviews too about the noise and was comfortable with it and thought, how bad could it be? Honestly, I just cannot stress how much you will not be prepared for how loud it is. It keeps the room warm and dry, but (and I mean literally as in the true definition of the word "literal") this thing is as loud as my upright vacuum. In fact, it may be a bit louder. It's not as loud as a shop vac, but it is comically loud. Plus, it's so friggin' big and not inexpensive that once you get it up there in your ceiling, you're not gonna want to go to the trouble of finding something to plug the hole with a replacement. So you'll probably just end up living with it until your wife gives you "that look" enough times that you finally admit defeat and get something else.
