I love this Wine Finer!,
I love this wine finer by Nuance. It's completely functional and it looks beautiful in the bottle. I love that it allows the wine to breath and it's a non-spill spout - so no more cloth around the neck or on the table to clean up spills. I own this product and have given it as a gift. Nuance has wonderful products. They're sleek, beautiful, well-designed and practical.

America's Test Kitchen happens to be one of my favorite cooking shows. They reviewed a group of wine aerators and said this one was the best.
So, I ordered it. It is simple and very easy to use. I am glad I followed their advice. It does exactly what it says it will do with no effort on my part. I couldn't be happier.

Several advantages over the Vinturi--but still no miracle wine improver,
By
This review is from: Nuance Wine Finer (Kitchen)
A while back I bought and reviewed the Vinturi, and concluded that it only improved 5-10% of wines. It is also something of a hassle to use, and so I've only used it with wines that I thought really needed the aeration. More recently I received this item as a gift. As an aerator it performs much like the Vinturi, and I'll repeat what I had to say about for the Vinturi at the end of this review. First, though, the differences.
Unlike the Vinturi, which you use between the bottle and glass, the Wine Finer goes into the bottle and serves as a pourer as well as an aerator. This is far more convenient than the Vinturi. You do need to be sure you have it seated firmly to avoid dripping. But when properly seated it pours about as well as the round disks you roll and slip into the bottle; it does have the advantage of having a plug to seal it, so you can stop a bottle without removing the Wine Finer. It also has a built in filter, which is more convenient than the filter you can insert into the Vinturi. So I find myself using this more than I ever used the Vinturi, even if I don't expect it to do much with the wine. As for aeration ... I'll repeat what I wrote about the Vinturi: Does it make the wine taste better? That depends on whether the wine is enhanced by the aeration. For wines with aging potential that aren't yet at their full potential, some air can help. Some "big" wines need air when they are "released" from the bottle. On the other hand, more delicate wines or wines on the downside of their peak can be hurt by aeration. Most mid-level wines released today are designed to be ready to drink right out of the bottle when they hit the market. They are seldom much enhanced by aeration. And poorly made wines aren't going to be fixed by this device. In my experience about 5-10% of wines actually benefit form this gizmo. And I won't use it with a really good wine--for those you should plan enough time in advance to let them breath in the bottle or decanter. In summary, there are times when it helps, but it is not going to provide a daily improvement in the wines you drink, nor magically fix the clunkers. The Wine Finer has the same limitations as the Vinturi when it comes to improving wines. But it is much more convenient to use, and serves other purposes. That makes it a more useful gadget, and one that is easier to recommend.

must have for wine lovers,

There are many aerators on the market, and they all work well, but this one is a clear winner for several reasons. The design is brilliant, both good looking and functional. It sits in the bottle and looks like a pouring spout, which it also is, and all you have to do is pour the wine through the spout to aerate it. In addition to these functions it also has a stopper, making it easy to keep the wine for the next day. Before we got this we would have to open a bottle an hour before we wanted to drink it. We couldn't believe this device would really make a difference, but we did taste tests and confirmed that it does. We use ours every day, and just bought 10 more, to give as gifts.

I purchased the Nuance Wine Aerator after a trip to Napa last December. Just about every winery tasting was using the Nuance. I already own Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator which does a decent job of aerating but leaks during pouring and isn't nearly as easy to use. I ended up buying two more Nuance Aerator's as gifts. The aerator is so simple to use. One trick is that if you pour faster and move the pour away from the glass as pouring you'll get more aeration. Attempting to slow pour on a slight angle doesn't work effectively. I would not hesitate to recommend the Nuance Wine Aerator as the best-in-class wine aerator.

My wife and I performed a blind taste test on some red wine that really needs to breathe a considerable amount of time to develop full flavor - there is a noticable difference between wine aerated with this pourer and wine just poured from the bottle. After allowed to breathe for 45 minutes, wine poured from the bottle and wine aerated with this pourer are not noticably different - quite an impressive time-saver! The pourer also allows precise pouring with no drips and makes a cool gurgling sound as you pour.

This is a sleek, gorgeous item that serves at least four functions - (1) no drip pouring, (2) filters out larger pieces of sediment and broken cork, (3) closes bottle and (4) aerates wine. I own a Vinturi and a number of stoppers, pourers, filters etc. but prefer this all-in-one solution. Yes, the jury is out as to whether wine aerators make much of a difference in helping a red wine "breathe" and "open up," but in my opinion just having the other functions together makes this a worthwhile purchase.

Great aerator and decanter. No more bulky aerators for me. Saw this being used at a wine tasting and was happy to be able to purchase it. Love the stopper too! Would highly recommend it. Comes in a nice box and makes a great hostess gift too or in a gift basket with your favorite bottle. Easy to clean as well.

I have several bottle-mounted wine 'decanters' but the cream of the crop is the Nuance Wine Finer. It does a great job at aerating the wine as you pour and serves as a driplees pourer as well. For short stints, I also use it as a bottle stopper and it functions reasonably well. For wines with lots of sediment, the finer filters the wine as you pour, so you get a clean/clear pour every time. And, it is so compact that we carry it with us to restaurants and on trips so we can easily improve our wine experience while dining away from home. We highly recommend this product.

Had been told by a number of people that using one of the new wine aerators when you didn't have time to decant your red wine really made a difference. Looked at the available products and decided on this one. This is designed to go directly into the bottle, as opposed to having to hold it over each glass. It have aerating holes along the side and tapers to a pouring spout. It really does a nice job of improving the drinkability of any wine I've tried it with- from cheap to good.
I like the design- very attractive; and the ability to use the cap to seal the bottle if you don't drink it all in one sitting. The only problem so far is that if there is cork debris in the bottle it will impede the pour- until the wine works its way around. All in all this product is as advertised. |
