Good, But Cannot Mail Merge With Office 2010 and Win 7 x64,
By
This review is from: PDF Converter 7.0 Retail (CD-ROM)
I used Nuance PDF Converter 7 with Windows 7, 32 bit with good success. The user interface is not always as intuitive as I'd like, but I get by with it and the PDF Converter 7 Professional is a good bang for the buck considering the Adobe alternative is a few hundred dollars.
However, when I got a new Dell Windows 7, 64 bit laptop, running 32 bit Microsoft Office Professional (the recommended version for Win7 x64) I get an error when I try to mail merge. The error is "Word cannot start the converter sspdfcg_x64.cnv" Uninstalling PDF Converter 7 Pro makes the error go away. Reinstall, and it comes back. I have a tech support item into Nuance, but it appears that this product is not appropriate for Windows 7 64 bit running Office 2010 using the standard default installation of Office. I will update this review if a solution is found.

Avoid this software at all costs - very bad copy protection,

This review is from: PDF Converter 7.0 Retail (CD-ROM)
I've installed the software and have been using it for 20 days. I connected a USB laser printer to my computer, and now the software says I need to reactivate. Why? I've already activated and registered my name with the company. Apparently even very simple changes will cause a re-activation to be required. I called tech support (because it is within the 90 day free-support period), and they indicated that I've used up 2 of my 4 available activations (in just 20 days). What?!? They did not offer to replace the activation that was used up in plugging in the printer.
They also indicated that AFTER the 90 day free-support period that tech support would be $19.95 PER INCIDENT (oh, they were cheerful alright). I asked if any 'uninstalls' were visible on their servers (because according to the license agreement you ought to be able to 'recover' an activation with an uninstall), but only one such uninstall was visible (instead of the two there should have been). They said that uninstalls were sometimes not visible if Anti-Virus software were running, but there is NO WARNING during the running of the uninstall program to that effect. I predict that I may not even get to the end of the 90 day support period at this rate. How should customers respond to this kind of abuse by this company? DON'T BUY THIS SOFTWARE!

PDF Converter 7,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This product did not work on my Windows 7 64 bit system. It took 20 minutes for the product to start if it started at all. If I tried to convert a PDF from within Word 2007 Converter 7 would lock-up Word requiring a system restart. Older versions of the product always worked and never caused any problems.
