Reviews

"Should you Download FlexT9 Speak-Trace-Write-Tap? Yes! If only for the Dragon Dictation feature alone it's worth it. but combine that with swipe-to-text and a few more inputs and you're rockin'!" - Antonio Wells, Android Tapp, January 5, 2011

"Nuance went back to work and came back offering up a keyboard that combines their fantastic speech recognition with three of the most popular typing solutions as well as a pile of features to really make it shine on a tablet." - Russell Holly, Geek.com, March 23, 2011

"The keyboards are certainly well-integrated. I installed the app easily and found that the standard keyboard seemed to be more accurate and forgiving than the standard keyboard." - Sascha Segan, PC Magazine, January 5, 2011

"FlexT9 worked well. It was accurate, fast and easy to use." - Jonathan Blum, The Street, January 10, 2011

Best I've had yet May 14, 2011

I'm recording this review using(to) the audio capabilities of this app. I will mark the corrections in parenthesis so (. See) you can see its accuracy.

I have liked swype(slight) but it doesn't have an (a) audio input capability so I had to switch back to the default keyboard frequently. I appreciate that this has combined capabilities, and the (Indy) accuracy seems great.

(Switching to swipe mode.)

As others have mentioned, capitalizing takes am extra tap, you can't just swipe up like in Swype, and the new sentence capitalization doesn't work. see? :)

i actually think this is (idea) faster and more accurate than ( Ryan) Swype, and seems to be (VW) able to (top) auto capitalize proper nouns like Tuesday, Smith, and January, which always annoyed me with Swype. my other big annoyance with Swype is that it auto competes on numbers, so typing "4" inputs "4ever" which is a pre defined dictionary entry so cannot be deleted. it's very frustrating to type some (sine) (arrive) numbers when Swype turns them all intro words in its dictionary.

i am concerned about privacy, with the android warning that they may be collecting credit cards and passwords.

( switching to draw mode)

I used to have a handspring CSpr'ngJ... okay, l can not LIcontl flSWre ,,sure floure...

wow. okay, i won't be using draw mode.

the speech and swipe modes work very well. this is my new keyboard software. only a few bugs to work out and clarity of (ob) the privacy issues to get 5 stars.

Update, 9/7/2011

I've tried a few other keyboards since flexT9, and none have measured up to it. As others have mentioned, several other (but not all) keyboard apps also have the privacy warning. The draw mode is a bit silly, as you can see from my attempt at using it above. My old handspring worked well, but tracing/swiping words is much much faster.

The auto capitalization seems to have been fixed. I haven't had an issue for some time with that. The audio dictation works well, but sometimes doesn't catch any of my text - I'm guessing a network connection issue, but there's no notification. Overall it's very accurate.

The remaining issue that will keep this from being a 5 star is the inability to edit the dictionary. Once flexT9 adds a word to the dictionary, it's there for good, and because it was added, it seems to show up often. Misspell a word once? It's on your phone for life. Somewhere enter a password in a web form that isn't marked as a password? Your password is now in the flexT9 dictionary and you can't remove it. There's some other quirks as well, like "i" is the default for a word with just the letter i (should be "I"), but there's no way to get rid of this.

Still, better than any of the other options I've tried, my big wish is for an editable dictionary of custom words.

amazing May 14, 2011

This keyboard rocks. Been using swipe for a long time and this one blows it away. It's got one minor issue with capitalizing three first letter of a sentence but oddly enough it has only happened right now in this field. I've been using this all morning within no issues.

This really does blow away swype. So much more fluid, responsive, and just plain works better.

Pros
1. When you type a name that's in your address book, it capitalizes it. Swype does not.
2. It auto adds apostrophes. Swype does not.
3. The suggestion bar is placed in a fantastic spot. Great idea.
4. More suggestions than Swype.

I wrote this whole review with this keyboard and did not have to delete or edit a single word after (lol, had to reread to make sure it was good).

OK first of all I'm using this keyboard to type the review and works amazing. For some reason it doesn't auto capitalize the first letter after the period, and doesn't auto space after you choose a word from the suggestion box. Those are the only problems I have experienced so far, it may even be the only ones.

What I love the most is that I got this magnificent app for free! thanks Amazon
