my one concern, when your child is teething. teething children gnaw on everything, and the handles & lid are NOT BPA free. my child started to chew on the handles and actually bit one of the rubber nubs off [i luckily got it before he swallowed it]. i have since put the handle cups away for after the "everything goes in my mouth" phase.
as for the drinking aspect of the cup, it isn't difficult to use. i started using these around 9 months and he had no problem. the straw uses compression to allow the liquid to come out, it also prevents it from spilling when not being used.
when reassembling, make sure you put the clear straw into the lid first, pull it until you hear a slight pop, and make sure it is over the hole. then push the white hard straw into the clear straw. it won't leak if you do it correctly.
overall, these cups are great if you are tired of helping your child lift up the sippy cup. the cleaning of them is just part of enjoying a product that let's your child drink independently. and cleaning them doesn't really take any more time than other cups i've tried.
First of all, let me start with saying that it comes in a great size and has wonderful handles and a straw. This is the only cup my daughter liked when she was younger. She was able to drink out of it right away at the age of 10 months.
However, in a week it becomes a hassle to wash. Why would anyone come up with a design that has SO MANY CURVED surfaces and trenches? Someone who doesn't have kids, that's for sure. My daughter used it during lunch holding with hands dirty with food. Food then got everywhere in the cup, including places where it was impossible to dig out from. After a while, the lid accumulates grease, dirt and eventually starts smelling and looks disgusting.
The straw is impossible to wash inside. I used piper cleaners with a few paper towels wrapped around. The color of paper towel after cleaning was BROWN. This is how much dirt accumulates there.
Wonderful idea - POOR DESIGN. Hence, three stars.
First we tried the 2 pack of Munchkin straw sip cups where the straw didn't fold away. They claimed to be leak proof and toddler proof. The latter was true (our 16 month old threw it on the tile countless times) but unfortunately both units leaked. Strangely after a few minutes her milk would begin rising in the straw and flowing out and over the top of the straw and puddling around the cup. Not sure why this happens except maybe the milk was colder than the outside air? The cups seemed okay the rest of the time but be warned that a good shake can also sprinkle whatever is inside all over too as we found out. We only use the Munchkin cups for water now.
Next up was the Nuby. Worst of all three by far! Yes the straw folds up but it squirts whatever is inside across the room whenever unfolding the straw or folding it back away. Also it is tricky to screw the lid down properly and doesn't want to line up on the threading. If this wasn't annoying enough it broke within 2 days. One of the seals where the straw folds in cracked and it spilled everywhere.
Lastly we ordered the Avent straw cups and found our winner. I was pretty much convinced there was no such thing as a leak proof, squirt proof, durable sippy cup but so far the Avent cup is a winner in this house. Ordering more pronto!
Very little leaking, easy to take apart and put back together, a good size (at least for an eight month old), and I like the fact that my son has a pink cup (as colors may vary means exactly that).
My only request of Nuby: I wish that this was made in the US and would pay double this price for this exact cup if it were.
I've downgraded to four stars. Second request of Nuby: please sell the replacement straws for a more reasonable price! Please note that if you lose either piece of the two part straw, it will cost about as much to get a new straw as to order a new cup. I contacted Nuby to see if I could get a replacement piece. The customer service was horrible. There's one website online that sells replacements, and it's a rip-off.

Made a mistake in buying these. The straws tear very easily and there is no way to replace them. They leak all the time. Just a huge waste of money. Do not buy.Published 1 month ago by Kindle Customer
