4.0 out of 5 stars A little finicky, but does the trick
My son was nursed and never used a bottle, so when it was time to wean him, he didn't understand that he had to tip the cup up in order to get the milk. This was the perfect solution! At first the cups leaked, the threading around the lid wasn't tight enough; but after being in the dishwasher, it got more snug and doesn't leak anymore. They are finicky though, sometimes...

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to assemble
If the sliding lid were slightly shorter, then you could easily thread the straw in place behind the crossguard. But as is, the sliding lid prevents the straw from pushing up into place, so you have to use your finger (or a tool like pliers if your hands are too big) to pull the mouthpiece between the sliding lid and the crossguard. This becomes tedious the very first...

At first the cups leaked, the threading around the lid wasn't tight enough; but after being in the dishwasher, it got more snug and doesn't leak anymore. They are finicky though, sometimes it's hard to get them open and it is fairly hard to clean the straw. But it's all worth it.

But as is, the sliding lid prevents the straw from pushing up into place, so you have to use your finger (or a tool like pliers if your hands are too big) to pull the mouthpiece between the sliding lid and the crossguard. This becomes tedious the very first time you wash the cups, and it really never gets easier. And what parent wants another frustration in their day, especially when the little one is begging for their drink?

Also, everyone else who complained about the "spray effect" when the lid is opened is spot on. These cups are a PAIN.

4.0 out of 5 stars The good and the bad, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Nuby Mega Sipper With Straw, Colors May Vary, 12 Ounce (Baby Product)
I both loved and hated this sippy. It definitely served it's purpose. My twins never had a bottle, so they didn't know you had to tip up the sippy. I gave them this straw sippy before a "regular" type of sippy. I never had any transition problems. They were drinking from it within the same day I introduced it.

I HATE cleaning it. You have to take it apart and make sure you get all the milk out of all three straw pieces. Running them through the dishwasher didn't seem to work, I usually soaked them in vinegar water and then rinsed really well. As soon as they were capable, I switched to regular sippies and gave these straw ones away.

They served their purpose, and I would TOTALLY recommend this cup if you are having problems getting your toddler on a sippy, but unless there is a better way to clean it, it's not a long term cup for me!

(Oh, I had very few leaks with this cup.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sippy Cup EVER!!!!!!!!, May 27, 2007
This review is from: Nuby Mega Sipper With Straw, Colors May Vary, 12 Ounce (Baby Product)
This cup is great! I find that no matter what my daughter does to this cup it seems to be the only one that stays together and doesn't leak.. Out of all of the Nuby cups this one is by far the best and I have tried them all!!!~

This is one of the sippy cup that our daughter (14-month old now) loves to use. I got this bottle right after she was one year old. I tries to give to her different sippy cups bofore, but she could not figure out how to use them. And this is the first one that she managed to get water out herself just on the first try. Now, she knows how to use other sippy cups as well, but still like to use this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best straw sipper out there!, February 6, 2007

I don't agree at all with the other review. I think this is the best straw sipper on the market. My son wouldn't take a sippy cup AT ALL, unless it was a straw. We tried everything, including the Playtex, and the Nuby is the best. Easy to clean, NO SPILL (if it's screwed on correctly -- it doesn't take any more work than any other bottle) and the silicone straw is bigger than most. This is the only one I'll buy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Way too much trouble, February 2, 2008

Have had one of these for a long time. Notice I said one because we won't buy another. This thing has a few major flaws. First and foremost, it is a pain in ]...[ to clean. It has so many parts too clean and keep track of: lid, bottle, outside straw, middle straw, and bottom straw. Each piece has to be taken apart each time for cleaning since the straws are small and the outside one is actually closed at the top to prevent leaking you pretty much have to hand wash and scrub out with a tiny pipe cleaner like brush (we use the one from the Dr. Brown's bottles). Putting it back together feels like you are building a model airplane (if you can manage to keep track of all the parts). Secondly, twist closing the lid is always a challenge. It isn't always easy to tell if you have it on right until it leaks. Taking it off is even worse because it seems to lock down and get stuck. The last thing is that sometimes when my kid is drinking and the straw part flips out of his mouth some of the liquid goes flying across too. I do give it credit for having a straw that folds down to stay clean and if you get it on right it doesn't leak. As mentioned, I didn't and wouldn't buy this again.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all in the assembly, June 17, 2007
This review is from: Nuby Mega Sipper With Straw, Colors May Vary, 12 Ounce (Baby Product)
So I thought, hey, no more bottles, so much less to wash - that dream did not come true - these are as hard to wash as bottles and twice as hard to put together. But it is still the VERY BEST SIPPY CUP going - never leaks if assembled correctly, and it's not a bottle with a different nipple like most sippy cups - it is a real step up for your toddler. We love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars It won't leak if you put it together correctly!, May 22, 2007
This review is from: Nuby Mega Sipper With Straw, Colors May Vary, 12 Ounce (Baby Product)
We love these cups! Once you figure out how to insert the straw correctly they absolutly don't leak. It is worth the time to do it correctly. My son really likes the smaller ones with handles but I have to refill them all the time so I'm trying the bigger ones now.

5.0 out of 5 stars best cup, March 15, 2007
This review is from: Nuby Mega Sipper With Straw, Colors May Vary, 12 Ounce (Baby Product)
This cup is awesome, I bought four of them and it's the only one my toddler will drink out of. I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about, if you have the straw in correctly (which takes some practice and getting used to), then this cup works great. After a couple runs in the dishwasher, the liquid finally started sucking back into the cup after he was done drinking (if that makes sense)so there is barely any leaking. I would recommend undoing all parts before putting in the dishwasher and make sure the seal is on correctly when you put it back together, and then it won't leak.
