When he did that, the air flow hole opened wide up and liquid dumped on him.
Lolo
The straw-like spout is soft and almost like a bottle ~ so it's a nice transition between a bottle and a cup.
amsroth
This cup is only truly leak proof if left sitting upright or gently placed on its side.

At first, I thought this product was great. The only way I can get my 2-year old son to drink milk is out of a bottle even though he can drink out of a regular sippy cup. This sports sipper was the solution as he loves the silicone feel of a nipple versus the hard plastic of a sippy cup. After TWO weeks of use, 3 of the 6 bottles I purchased have torn nipples. The nipples tear between the slits causing a little piece of silicone to come loose. WIth two of the bottles, I was able notice the tear before the loose silicone completely tore off. With the third bottle, I saw big hole in the nipple so I think my son may have swallowed it. I called Nuby to report this issue and I was told that the life of the nipple is 3-5 weeks. Mine lasted only two weeks. And even if they last 3-5 weeks, that is a very short time! Terrible product and terrible value.

My son was having a hard time using the many sippy cups I purchased. I even bought the Nuby cups and he just chewed on them. He took right to this cup. The straw was easy for him to suck and keep in his mouth because of its shape and he could get as much water as he needed. This is the only cup that has worked for him and now he is learning to use regular straws because of this cup. We are skiping "sippy" cups altogether now. My friend tried this cup and her son chewed up the straw but my son has not done this and we have had it for a month.

I bought this sippy cup to transition my daughter from the bottle to a sippy cup. The soft silicone tip seemed promising and she took to it right away. The only problem is that this cup leaks. I have purchased several and they ALL leak. If they don't leak right away they will within a few weeks. The problem is that now this is the only cup that she likes. I wish I had never purchased it. If you are considering buying this cup, please DON'T. Purchase some other kind of silicone tipped cup. Do not buy this one. You will be sorry.

These cups are great! If you are having a hard time taking your child off of the bottle, these really help with the transition. They are spill/leak proof and my daughter prefers them over her bottle. The sport sipper is too much like a nipple (to me) so I switched the clear sports sipper spouts with the clear regular spouts. You can order replacement spouts from Amazon.com for a really great price. The regular spouts are just like any other sippy cup spout. The design of the cup is really great for little hands. I love these cups.

This sippy cup leaks easily; even if you carefully tighten the lid. i definitely recommend you stay away from this failed product.

I probably own 80% of all the sippy cup styles out there. Every time I bust one out for my daughter, someone inevitably says, "Oh, we have that same cup." This cup gets all similar remarks amongst my mom friends. "I hate this cup, it leaks all over the place!" The silicone top is very hard to adjust and secure. There is an air vent (similar to when you buy a huge plastic jug of water at the grocery store and have to punch through the hole), and this air vent might as well just be a big gaping hole. My daughter loves to use this cup to get water to wash herself with. Joy.

My son turned one the other day, and I am a little behind on transitioning him off the bottle. I started trying new cups when he was around 7 months old, but he never took to anything. Since he wasn't yet a year old, I was honestly lazy about it and just kept going on with the bottle, figuring I'd get back to helping him transition later. A few tries here and there in the interim amounted to nothing. Now he's too old for all those cups I had then, and he wants nothing to do with any of them or any of the new cups I purchased. I bought Avent and Born Free training cups (since we used Born Free bottles), as well as softer Avent spouts, and I even put it out there on Facebook to moms of young kids for suggestions, all to no avail. I think I have about $50 worth of once-used sippy cups on my kitchen counter and a mountain of suggestions as to how to get my son off the bottle (and some sympathy).

What it all boiled down to was that my son did not like anything that wasn't a silicone spout due to the fact that he had a silicone nipple on his bottles. Not many cups out there have that. I tried a straw cup, but he just didn't get the concept of sucking on a straw to get liquid. I finally got him to accept the somewhat rubbery Born Free training cup (6+ month), as well as a Nuby 6+ month cup with a clear silicone spout, but it took FOREVER for him to drink his normal amount because the flow was too slow. He would get frustrated after a while and quit.

Every cup I purchased was tried for a short time, then completely refused, to the point where if I even brought one of these oh-so-awful cups near my son's face, he would scream bloody murder. (Mind you, my son is super easy-going and always has been, so this behavior is totally out of character for him.

I had low supply and while I had to supplement with formula we never used a bottle. Instead I used an SNS, but by the time she was about 6 months old she was constantly pulling at the SNS tubing making it very difficult for me. So I decided to switch to sippys. I bought one of these thinking the long tube would be an easier transition for her. It did take a little bit but my 6 month old did figure out how to use this sippy! :D We gave her her supplement in that until she was about 11 months and she gave up formula on her own.

Pros:

~easy for breast fed babies to learn

~easy to clean (by hand or dishwasher)

~very inexpensive (on sa\e for $1, normally $2-$3 at walmart)

~silicone can be boiled in case of thrush (or just cheaply replace the whole thing)

~tops are interchangeable with the 'regular' sippy tops that nuby makes.

~is no spill as long as the silicone is untorn (see below)

Cons:

~the silicone top tears easily between the slits, causing it to quickly become too fast of a flow

~impossible to find replacement silicone tops. must just buy a whole new sippy (good thing they are cheap)

~if torn may leak when not using. but for a young baby this isn't really a problem since they cant use it by themselves anyway
