Covers the history, varieties, methods of use, methods of defense, and detection of the three categories of weapons,

Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical. Specific types of weapons within each category are discussed, including strengths

and weaknesses for different applications. Many black and white pictures and diagrams are included, although they are

more evokative of the physical reality of these weapons, than informative. The text is unemotional, and attempts to

convery the horror of these types of weapons by describing them thouroughly.

The book is firmly set near the end of the cold war, the most recent conflicts referenced being Afghanistan and Iran-Iraq,

and focuses mostly on conventional war, though it does go into crowd control, and mentions terrorism. I suspect, if a new

edition was made, it would shift its focus for the last 20 years to the actual and potential use of these weapons by

terrorists, rather than any technical developements that have occured.
