Amazing, amazing, amazing,
This review is from: Nuclear Sad Nuclear (Audio CD)
I've loved these guys since I first heard them, and this album is just fantastic. They're all talented musicians, and their songwriting ability blows me away. Songs move from a spastic breakneck pace to a slow melodic breakdown and back again in an instant. Their two vocalists have incredible range and power. If you like grindy stuff like Ed Gein, TDTE, etc., check this out -- every bit as powerful and much more fun.
PLEASE, don't just download this and copy it for all your friends. Pay for it. These guys work too damn hard and they've put together an album that shows how dedicated they are.

I first was introduced to this band when they opened for my friends in Sawtooth grin. I couldn't quite put a finger on it then but i knew there was something about this band I dug so i kept going to check them out. Their last cd "Put on your rosey red glasses" launched them nationwide and for good reason as it was a well produced cd by a band that played technical music very well. This cd finds the band going for a full length, and on this release they seem more at home. This disc remeinds me a lot of Converge's "Petioning the Empty Sky" as the band sounds very fragile and vunerable well unleashing out a crushing sound much like Converge did. They also have added new elements to their sound as they have grown as a band, and have become more better song writers as well. "Like a Cat" is a good example of this. They seem a lot less like a trend and more like a mainstay with this release. The guitar work on this cd is a lot different from their last as it sounds a lot different tone wise, plus a lot more solo work is involved, showcasing Alex's great skill. The only thing that doesn't seem to jump out as much on this release is their dual vocalist attack, other than that, this is definetly one of the best underground releases of the year. I'm giving it a 4.5.

This release is absolutely amazing. This is a perfect release for those who are looking for something new and original, or those who enjoy chaotic yet melodic metalcore that borderlines on technical. Yeah, there are lots of chaotic metalcore bands any more, but this has something that sets them apart. They are actually talented musicians. The guitarists find space to put in an amazing solo-esque riff in between all the chaos, the drummer is insane, and the vocalists (yes, there are two) write interesting lyrics and intensify their music with the dual-vocal attack. It's really an incredible album. This was one of the most sought-after metalcore bands of the new millenium before being signed to Eyeball, and hopefully now they can get the respect they deserve.

this album is amazing and you're legit retarded if you don' t like it,
This review is from: Nuclear Sad Nuclear (Audio CD)
i've read a bunch of reviews saying this album isn't as "heavy". which i guess is true if you're listening to the #12 for all the wrong reasons. this album is solid, and i don't really think it can be classified as an genre of music besides awesome. the guitar work is amazing they play crazy riffs perfectly you can hear ever not they hit, the drumming is perfect in everyway, and the album's diversity is astonishing. the clean guitar work thrown in the mix doesn't make the album less heavy it just makes it more original. there's elements of rock, jazz, grind, and metal all put together perfectly and there's not many bands who can pull that off i think nuclear sad nuclear is #12's best and most talented release to date. we can only expect them to get better as they progress and grow as a band.

The Number Twelve Looks Like A Rock,
By Alfred Scurvy "ALFREDSCURVY" (Philadelphia, Pa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nuclear Sad Nuclear (Audio CD)
This band is one of the few out there who is willing to take hardcore, grind, and all of the accessories thereof, meld them together and actually pull it AND ACTUALLY PULL IT OFF. Their wide range of influence is sewn together seemlessly. From the "I chewed on broken glass" screams to the lowest bowel moving growls, the 80's Yngwie shred to the converge/dillinger time signatures to classical guitar riffs, this band covers it all and kicks your ass in the process.
This albulm is only a growth for the band as they continue to devour all the people, children, and hookers that lie in their path. The Number Twelve maintain a huge amount of pride in the face of most trendy "hardcore". One of the few bands formed within the past few years that will stand the test of time. Buy it, and then make out with jesus.

This is by far their best album. All of the songs just make me glad, even though to most people it saddens the mood. I like the riffs and screaming in this album much more than in their more recent ones. Defenitly a great buy.

Fantastic,
This review is from: Nuclear Sad Nuclear (Audio CD)
Im a big music fan, and its rare to come across an album like this that barely anyone has even heard of, that impressed me this much! Just about everyone I recommended this album also agreed that it simply rocks. But I can also completely understand some people not liking it as well, as its hard to defend that the lead singers vocals arent "annoying" at times. Personally, im usually so impressed by what I am hearing instrumentally, that I barely pay attention to the vocals. But this is a 5 star album in my book.

A Jagged Ball of Post-Hardcore Fury,
By
This review is from: Nuclear Sad Nuclear (Audio CD)
The Number Twelve Looks Like You construct a breathtaking collection of progressive song writing and post-hardcore fury for their first full length album. The New Jersey band unleash brutal, quizzical, mysterous and just plan weird atmospheres all over this album, sometimes all in one song as with "Texas Dolly". Despite a wide range of influences the album is a suprisingly cohesive listen, with great song sequencing that just adds to the overall emotional impact of the songs as a whole. By the time the virtuosic closing track "Catagory" rolls around, you relize your listening to one of the most exciting and foward thinking bands making music today. In the end, all of these elemens add up to be one of the most progressive, strange and brillant records of 2005. An essential album for fans of any style of heavy music.
