Book Description

0972462902 978-0972462907 April 20, 2003
This study supplement is meant to accompany the book Nuclear Weapons (ISBN 0965652076). However, you can still use the supplement without the book.

This book details efforts by President Eisenhower and Kennedy to achieve a nuclear test ban. Also included is a reprint of the Gilpatric Committee's 1965 report on nuclear proliferation. The Gilpatric Committee was set up by President Johnson as a task force to deal with the spread of nuclear weapons to other nations. Information on nuclear weapon free zones, nuclear proliferation to nations such as North Korea, and statements for and against the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty are also included.

In the back of the book is a video CD-Rom with footage of nuclear weapons tests conducted by the United States during the 1940's and 1950's. On the same video CD-Rom is film footage of President Kennedy signing the Limited Test Ban Treaty. In addition, there are film clips from a U.S. government film of President Eisenhower's Atoms For Peace Speech intertwined with footage of the effects of nuclear weapons. An audio CD-Rom is also included with statements and speeches by President Eisenhower and President Kennedy on nuclear test ban negotiations, President Lyndon Johnson's remarks on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty of 1968 and President Reagan's and General Secretary Gorbachev's statements at the signing of the INF Treaty in 1987.
