A number of government documents are reprinted in this set including "The Effects of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," which was prepared by the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey. Documents related to nuclear test ban negotiations during the 1950's and 1960's are also included as well as the text of Dwight D. Eisenhower's Atoms For Peace speech. The study supplement tells the story of Eisenhower and Kennedy's pursuit of a nuclear test ban. In addition, a reprint of the Gilpatric Committee's report on nuclear proliferation is also reprinted. The Gilpatric Committee was a task force created by President Johnson in 1964. Information on nuclear weapon free zones and statements for and against the CTBT are also contained in the study supplement. The video CD-ROM contains clips of nuclear weapons tests and President Kennedy's signing of the Limited Test Ban Treaty. Excerpts from Dwight D. Eisenhower's Atoms for Peace speech are also on the video CD-ROM. The audio CD-ROM is highlighted by statements and speeches by President Eisenhower and President Kennedy, President Johnson's remarks on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and President Reagan's and General Secretary Gorbachev's statements at the INF Treaty ceremony.

2.0 out of 5 stars Concise... not neccesarily a compliment, January 20, 2005
This review is from: Nuclear Weapons (Paperback)
In this book, the first 70 pages are devoted to the actual book chapters. When you take into account the pictures (which are not really mind-blowing) and the large font, there is really not much meat to the book. It does not really describe anything that you couldn't read in a single magazine article or encyclopedia entry. The bulk of the book (the last 100 pages) is given over to poor reproductions of various documents, none of which are very exciting.

All in all, for the price, I can't complain too much, thus the two stars; one for the content and one for the value.

I would put the price of this towards a more comprehensive book.

5.0 out of 5 stars user friendly book, February 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Nuclear Weapons (Paperback)
This book is a well-rounded digest of information about nuclear weapons, with interesting government documents from the "50s. I have a new appreciation for Pres. Eisenhower's handling of the most powerful weapon and how to channel atomic energy away from warfare.
