I really don't understand many of you people. Once youve heard an album of a certain artist, you expect them to make the same kind of albums over and over again. That's bull.Lara Fabian's new album Nue is quite different from the previous one, but it's still very very beautiful. This time she's put in some classical-type of songs, which some of you may find a bit heavy. But there are also still some very groovy uptempo songs, like Rio and sén aller. But maybe the most beautiful and emotional song on the album is Bambina. Last but not least, she's put in a hidden track, a piano-piece lasting 16 minutes which beautifully covers all the tracks on the album. It's an extraordinary album, a must-have-cd, and you'll love it.

Lara recently released an English-language album that was no doubt intended to crack the top-40 American market. Some say she was trying to become the second Celine. In the wake of that less-than-entirely-successful effort, she once again recorded this album for her French audience which has acknowledged this superstar for some time (especially those in Quebec where she first succeeded). Nue is a wonderfully musical, while eclectic album. It clearly draws upon international influences---North and South American, Italian---but has a strong classical basis in many of its themes and production. For those who care about such things, collaborator Rick Allison has also cleverly used variations on the same chord progression for several of the compositions. Not to fret. The results neither sound redundant nor elementary. In the end, the true instrument, Lara's superb voice, makes the difference anyway. She continues to demonstrate her versatile talent with an uncanny ability to move effortlessly from one genre to the next, sounding sometimes like a pop diva, with her comfortable timing and expert phrasing, while at another, the unparalleled lead in a choir at Mass. Lara lends a hand herself to the writing, composing one selection as a dedication to her mother. The extended solo piano overture which actually comes at the end of the album (performed we can assume by Allison) is an extra treat. This is a complete package for any listener who enjoys a singer at her best. Understanding French is not a requirement- the music transcends the borders. Bravo, Lara!

An absolutely stunning piece of work. Lara's vocals are breathtaking. The song writing is brilliant. The musicianship is fabulous. The songs are masterpieces, with Lara baring her soul with beauty, finesse, and elegance. The bonus "Piano nocturne" (not labeled on the CD) is a 17 minute piano version of the album. It's magical. Standout tracks inlcude "Le roi est une femme" and "Je suis mon coeur." The duet with Belgian Maurane is "like butter"! Their voices blend smoothly and wonderfully. Very moving lyrically. Her voice is in tip-top shape, easily climbing the scales and expressing emotions deep and moving. A brilliant masterpiece! And, believe me, I've kept myself from exaggerating!!

I unfortunately do not speak French, but this album transcends all language barriers. The music is beautiful and once again Lara's voice is wonderful. I am really looking forward to her new English album due out in 2004.

Quelques mots en Français,
This review is from: Nue (Audio CD)

Music doesn't get any better than this.,

If you enjoy Barbra Streisand or Celine Dion, you must get this cd. Lara's sound is more modern and fresher than Barbra's, her voice is fuller and more richly textured than Celine's, and her songs are more sophisticated, polished and consistent than either's. Lara just might steal your heart away from any other vocalist.
I purchased this cd because of my adoration/addiction to Lara's English cd. Unbelievably, this one is even better. Lara's voice is more relaxed than on her English songs, but no less astonishing. Expectedly, the music is not tinged with any faux R&B or ready-to-remix dance numbers, requisite on US pop releases (though Lara can pull anything off). From start-to-finish, this cd is flawless, replete with crystal-clear production, brimming with sing-along melodies, and crowned with arguably the best voice out there. Since Amazon does not have samples of any of the tracks, I'll try to describe each one: 1. J'y Crois Encore - This soaring, emotionally charged, powerful pop ballad has "hit" written all over it. 2. Aimer Deja - This adult-contemporary gem offers a mild yet inescapable hook. Reminds me of Lauren Christy's first album. 3. S'en Aller - A brassy-yet-silky pop tune, this one is my favorite song on the album. It's an experience that you replay as soon as it ends, because you can't get enough of it. Even the most jaded listener won't be able to get the chorus and bridge out of her head. 4. Silence - A moody (but very catchy) downtempo soft-rocker that prepares the listeners for the haunting emotions of the upcoming three tracks. The musical style is similar to Celine's "Miles to Go." 5. Parce Que Tu Pars - The French language has never sounded more gorgeous than on this ballad, with Lara's succint enunciation. Lara goes from sexy ingenue on the verses to powerhouse diva on the chorus. 6. Je Suis Mon Coeur - A sorrowful, melancholy dirge where Lara's voice whispers and floats over medieval Gallic instrumentation a la Barbra's "Non C'est Rien." 7. Tango - This passionate ballad is a highlight of the album. Lara ascends from the smooth huskiness of the verses to a Barbra-like wail on the chorus. 8. Imagine - This track liberates the listener from the intensity of the previous songs with an optimistic mood. The entirely spoken verses lead to a triumphant holler on the chorus as choirs and Celtic music weave in and out. Think Enya on Starbucks. 9. Tu Es Mon Autre - Lara sings this entire ballad with Maurane. Along the same lines as Barbra's duet with Michel Legrand on the Just for the Record version of "What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life." 10. Rio - Another upbeat galloper to even out the dark side of this album. 11. Bambina - You won't believe the clarity and beauty of Lara's voice on this lullaby. Be prepared to shed a tear with the quiet music box conclusion. 12. Immortelle - Okay, this one is the showstopper. Though I don't understand what it's about, it seems like Lara has something very important to tell you on this midtempo, exotic and slightly chilling song. Lara's voice alternates from raspy to delicate, soft to thunderous, with every syllable she utters. More exciting than Sarah Brightman's "Eden," with a splash of Madonna's "Frozen." 13. Le Roi Est Une Femme - A glorious finale, similar to Lara's "Broken Vow." The classical beauty and precision Lara sings this with make her unequaled by any singer, with the exception of Barbra. Lara's final 20-second sustained note has the beauty and strength of a perfect diamond. 14. (Unlisted) - This 17-minute piano instrumental of all the above songs reaffirms the breathtaking emotional and musical journey of the album while being a substantial piece of music on its own. A brilliant idea. Though I have compared Lara to many other artists for the sake of readers unfamiliar with her sound, rest assured she is a true, once-in-a-lifetime original. I am so lucky to have found her music. I hope you feel the same way. |
