Maravilhoso!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nueva Bossa Nova (Audio CD)
Portuguese speaker or not, any modern fan of bossa nova will like this album. I took it for a test-listen in Manhattan the other day and was amazed at the perfect soundtrack it lent to my surroundings. The vocals and beats are well suited to each other, blending traditional rhythms and up-to-the-minute, cosmopolitan sounds. In a word, it's maravilhoso (marvelous)!

Absolutely Fantastic Compilation,

Mix Break & Bossa, Hotel Costes, Brazilectro, Glucklich, Bossa-Tres Jazz and Boss-A-Troniq and what do you get? Nuevo Bossa Nova. I love this compilation. Right when I was losing faith in new music in the genre (thanks to Brazil 5000 and Brazilectro vol 3), this pops up at 10:45 last night in a CD shop. Go figure?Featured artists include Marcos Valle, Bebel Gilberto, Carla Alexandar, Mo Horizons, Tom & Joyce, Da Lata and many more. If you follow this genre, you'll probably recognize 90% of the artists included. Surprisingly, most of the cd is not an overlap if you collect the other compilations. The CD starts out slower with Patricia Marx E O Meu Amor Vi Passar, then stays mellow with Marcos Valle. Then a subtle beat is added when you hear the remix to August Day Song by Bebel Gilberto, then into a lounge mood in the Jet Sounds remix (Nicola Conte) of "Tic Tac" (do not worry, it is not THE Tic Tac that you know of from Brasil). Rounded out, you slide through Tom & Joyce, hit Suba and Da Lata and the CD ends with a soulful track by Tim Hutton. I definitely recommend this CD - it's fantastic. If you want something similar, of the compilations mentioned, probably the Break & Bossa series comes the closest.

This is a fantastic compilation of Nuevo Bossa Nova sounds from Brazil. It really turned me on toa few new artists I did not already know. The songs by Mad Zoo & Patricia Marx are my favorite, but the rest are just plain great as well.
