The word “Americana” gets tossed around rather loosely these days; it can mean anything from a hipster with a recently-discovered acoustic guitar to a decades-long denizen of the Grand Ole Opry. But when you set aside the Johnny-come-rootly types from the real deal, it’s a sure bet that you’re going to stray into Iguana territory. Based out of New Orleans for the past ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Grew into a favorite April 28, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
We purchased this at an Iguanas concert many years ago, and while we liked it a lot at first, it has grown and grown on us, to the point that it stays in the car player and cycles over and over. It's fun, catchy and at times poignant. The bass player -- Rene Coman, I believe -- is superb, and the dual saxes make for a wonderfully distinct sound. I love the heavy use of accordian on this CD and was disappointed to read that they moved away from it in the new album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pure pleasure to listen to July 17, 2009
Format:Audio CD
"Nuevo Boogaloo" by The Iguanas is a truly wonderful CD that has a very mellow groove throughout. Unfortunately, it seems like there are not a lot of people who know about this band or this CD. Both are worth checking out. The Iguanas have a very rootsy, traditional sound. Kind of like a Spanish version of Donna the Buffalo, without the female vocals. Highly, highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best thing they recorded June 16, 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This CD is great and is by far the best that the Iguanas have ever done. For some reason they didn't stick with this sound. I agree with the above review that this one never grows old. If you liked this, try "Pepe and the Bottle Blondes." They are less of a rock group than the Iguanas and have more of a big band sound, but they do some of the same songs and are a lot of fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars spanish language music for gringos August 30, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I like the Iguanas. What others complain about them I actually like...they change direction with each new album. They can rock, jam, big band, folk and sing ethnic music.

I have never liked spanish language music. Nothing against the language but I always thought it took away from the ROCK. This cd changed my opinion.

Essentially, the Iguanas are a New Orleans roots band that blends different styles. They are good musicians but they show restraint and rarely jam out on the songs (live they do extend themselves more).

I feel that this is their most folksy work that embraces their spanish influences. My favorite song... "Oye Isabel" of course!

This band should come out with a compilation cd
