This is certainly one of the finest recordings available of one of the world's premier gypsy guitarists (although his classical guitar skills are no less amazing).
From his soloin the middle of Nuages using only harmonics to his blazing yet still melodically comprehensible phrases in Sweet Georgia Brown, Raphael offers a glimpse as to what one of his early heroes, Django Reinhardt, could have done with a few extra fingers.
Some CD's in the gypsy jazz genre have stellar music only to suffer from sub-par production, but I am happy to say that this CD is everything one could hope for. There is also the added benefit of the songs having been recorded live- the excitement of the audience is tangible and contagious.
Find out why Raphael is considered one of the finest guitarists in a genre loaded with incredible talents, many of whom start playing guitar instead of attending formal schooling. But beware - I was ready to go burn my guitar after hearing this!
