Ah, another book on the ESC. The song contest has endured over 50 years and it is gathering more fans each year with participants from more countries than ever! (started with 5, but now average of 50 countries). This has introduced Europe and the rest of the world & launched careers of ABBA, Olivia Newton-John, Celine Dion, Katrina & the Waves and more. This contest covers a spectrum of classical entries to SoundGarden, Englebert Humperdink all the way through Lordi of Finland. One never knows what type of entry a country will send to represent (remember "Dustin the Turkey" from Ireland?). Writer Tim Moore captures the essence of the fans and participants in this funny fast paced, well written book. You can't help yourself from laughing out loud during this enjoyable read! Recommend to ESC fans, and world music fans.

Another masterpiece by Mr. Moore! The author turns his bemused British eye to the rampant egoism, narcissism, and cultural disconnects that make up the Eurovision song contest -- sound familiar, "American Idol" fans? Whatever his subject matter -- Victorian travelers, Jacobean adventurers, medieval pilgrimages, extreme athletic events, the most popular board game in history, or (in this case) the pursuit of Andy Warhol's fifteen minutes of fame -- Mr. Moore has a unique and riotously funny take on the people, places, and things he encounters in pursuit of his objectives. Read this book -- and if you haven't read Mr. Moore's other books, get them and read them, too!

this is a totally irrelevant book about a totally irrelevant event that surfaces once a year - and how! and I am old enough to remember most of these performers. I laughed, raised my eyebrows and almost wept sometimes.
