You can mix and scratch your music, including your iTunes Music Libraries using two large performance platters and a central mixer section with a crossfader, buttons and knobs. iDJ Live is laid out in to carefully recreate the two-decks-and-a-mixer setup that professional DJs prefer. Just load your tracks to either Deck A or Deck B, and then control it, cueing up the start point, performing advanced transitions and even scratching. iDJ Live comes complete with iPad stand and custom headhpone/speaker audio cable so connecting to your sound system of choice is easy. It's been awhile since I've been this excited about new DJing technology. Ever since I purchased djay by algoriddim for my iPad, I wished for a deck or controller to do more complicated and controlled mixes. Then a few months ago I saw a You Tube video about this Numark controller........yippee....DJing gods heard me...lol. Saw a few write ups and looked at a few demo videos, not many details on the tech end. Then the $99 price tag looked me in the face and said, "Hmmmm". In comparison to all of the controllers/decks I've bought before, $99 "ain't much" so I pre-ordered it with the voice in the background, "You get what you paid for!"

So I finally received this controller. I opened it up and my first reaction is "Hmmm, ok." It's made of very sturdy plastic and doesn't weigh much. Now my first reaction to an electric toy is "Where do I plug in for power?"....another "Hmmmm ". Unless I missed something, Numark's IDJ Live does not have an independent power source! It feeds off the power of your iPad......"Hmmmm". So please before hooking this up, fully charge your iPad, iPodtouch, iPhone. In Numark's defense, I used the unit for about 2 ˝ hours and went from 100% to 84%. So in theory I can rock a party for about 8-9 hours before worrying about charging up.

This unit does not come with detailed instructions, just a quick start guide. This was not a problem. The turn knobs and buttons were solid and sturdy. The cross fade was very responsive. You can do most functions on the controller. Things like looping, additional cueing, bpm adjustments, quick searches and total equalizer settings you still do on the iPad.

All in all I had a lot of fun with this controller. The nice size plates were very responsive and made scratching and mixing a breeze. One tip, cut off the scratch option when you're not scratching. The plates are that sensitive. Would I use this in the clubs?....naw. This is made for pool partys, bbq's, house partys or just to practice. What I am excited about is that this controller sets the stage for other developers to make one for the iPad. Maybe one day some DJ can leave his pc/mac at home and bring just the iPad.....nothing more.

This is an awesome product... I' so happy with it, it's crazy.

My first major PRO is the rubber footing... I'm actually surprised nobody else mentioned it. This bad boy doesn't slide at all -great for when you're really active on the tables.

PRO: it comes with a channel splitter for pre-curing in headphones. Yeah it says that in the fine print, but people overlook the "what's in the box" list.

PRO: browse button with deck A and deck B selector... Use iDJ to pick your music.

PRO: no lag. That's right, I didn't experience latency. I'm running my apps on an iPad 2 with the latest update. If you're listening via bluetooth there may be, but since a DJ needs precise timing, why would you do that to yourself?

PRO: plastic. I know you're thinking "how's that a pro?" easy... Mobility. Metal casing looks nice, sure, but I'm a mobile guy. The less weight, the better. Plus it doesn't feel cheap to me.

PRO: size. Even with the molded styrofoam on top, this fits PERFECTLY in my Roadrunner case.(the pedalboard size) Don't have one? Get one.

Numark isn't new at this, they have experience, and it shows. Oh yeah, the "backwards slider issue"? That's a setting in your app, buddy. Turn "hamster switch" off and have a nice day.

I HAVE NO "CONS" TO REPORT. The Algoriddim DJay app has SEVERAL useful shortcuts which I use regularly in combination with iDJ Live. I am truly satisfied.

This iOS-DJ controller is perfect for anyone from Pro DJs to music lovers who have never tried DJing before. Don't be fooled by the sub-$100 price, that doesn't mean it's not a serious kit - this is an entry level controller that is perfect for beginners and is still a ton of fun for semi-pro or professional DJ's. It very effectively harnesses the processing power of your iPad, iPod or iPhone to enables you to DJ parties or other events using the music that is already on your iPod via any Core MIDI-enabled apps.

The package comes complete with iPad stand and custom headhpone/speaker audio cable so connecting to your sound system of choice is easy. Connect your device using the built-in dock connector and once these two connections are made, you're ready to go.

I've found no issues with the crossfader or scratch latency, but the again its $100. Don't expect the NS6 responsiveness for 1/10th of the price.
