Non-Stop Action!,
By Book Worm and canine "guidingpaws" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Number One with a Bullet (Paperback)
This novel started out as an podiobook available through iTunes, and it might still be downloadable in chapters over there). I found myself anxiously awaiting each new chapter. Yet I wished I could just have the book's core content without all the prelim stuff, author promotions, commentary that was only semi-related, etc. With the print version of N1B this is possible. Neat characters who you love to hate, come to feel for and just draw you in to the story. Action that makes you not want it to go away. All in all a well crafted piece of work.

You can see the movie...,
By P. G. Holyfield "Author of Murder at Avedon Hill" (Charlotte, NC United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Number One with a Bullet (Paperback)
The podcast version of Number One with a Bullet won the 2007 Parsec Award for Best Non-Speculative Fiction... and it was well-deserved. Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff has a flair for description and action that allows the listener (and reader) to visualize the story so vividly, you'll wonder why NiB hasn't hit your movie theater. NiB feels like a Bourne movie, with characters you'll love (and love to hate!).

An awesome, action packed story of Johnny Dane, a retired hitman forced back into the lifestyle to save the woman he loves by competing in a last man standing assassin face-off. It was impossible to lay down the book without yearning to know what was to happen on the next page.

Mr Nemcoff just does not know the meaning behind "bad" he writes like there is no tomorrow and does not really care who others think they are or who he is, Mark writes like nobody can, his talents are far from reached, I believe MYN will sell many many eBooks and do it for a long time, I love his books and will buy them as they come out. Number one with a Bullet, is nothing less then brillaint and holds your attention and will make you finish the book faster just because you will have the need to know!

If you paid someone like Carlos the Jackal to kill Jason Bourne, this is what you would get. A non-stop, explosive thriller from the mind of Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff that pits the world's best assassins against each other. It's worth the read just to see what they do to L.A.

Written in a movie script style, Number One With a Bullet is a top notch action thriller. I can't wait for the next book by Yoshimoto. The pace never slacks off.

This review is from: Number One with a Bullet (Paperback)
Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff, Hollywood cool-guy and Playboy-endorsed podcaster extraordinaire, rockets you through the kill-off of the century in this action-packed novel. Get this: the top ten assassins of the world have been rounded up to compete for the biggest prize the richest men in the world can offer: a bunch of money and... his or her life! Yes, to win this game Johnny Dane has to kill the other nine contestants, even if he doesn't want to.
With punch-perfect writing, as much thrilling action as Demolition Man, Running Man and The Transporter combined, MYN delivers ALL the goods in this gripping adaptation of his screenplay for the movie of the same name. Get this, read it, and you'll know someone dropped the ball when this movie didn't get made. But don't worry about Mark: he rang up the cash machine for multiple options on this bad boy before all was said and done! A thrilling novel and a piece of podcasting history all between two covers!

not what it seems,
By
This review is from: Number One with a Bullet (Paperback)
Number One With A Bullet is described as one man who wants out of the life of hit men struggling and being dragged back in kicking and screaming. I didn't see any struggle at all. It barely takes ten pages for our protagonist to decide he needs to win the game in order to finally live his dream life with his girlfriend. The book was also adapted from the author's unsuccessful screenplay, and unashamedly so. Aside from leaving the scene settings for every scene change (which I feel doesn't take away from the story), the dialog and action just seem to be taken from a bad american 1970's kung fu movie. All in all, I think this would've more than likely been a funny movie is shot correctly, but it translates into a shoddy, if not altogether boring, read. |
