Editorial Reviews

Numbers and shapes are the focus of this third Babyscapes video, set entirely to the music of Mozart in deference to the studies that show Wolfgang Amadeus has a particularly potent effect on young minds. Simple animation and repetition are the key here, with parachuted numbers 1-10 falling, in order, out of a dirigible, while children's voices count. They fall again silently so your youngsters may count by themselves. As with each segment in this 26-minute tape, the process repeats once or twice more. Numbers also appear on blocks and in fireworks. Then it's time to learn six shapes, including star and diamond, which appear first with a shape sorter, then as clay pressed into shape by a machine, and, finally, bouncing into a lake. All this with pieces such as the Piano Sonata in C Major, the first movement of Symphony No. 40, and the "Champagne Aria" from Don Giovanni facilitating the learning for ages 8 months to 5 years. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Product Description

Miracle of Mozart Numbers and Shapes is the third tape in the Babyscapes video series. Miracle of Mozart teaches children numbers and shapes utilizing state of the art graphics while carefully chosen classical selections of Mozart play in the background aiding children in learning each number and each shape. Each musical piece was chosen because of its proven ability to stimulate the brain thus accelerating the learning process. Children love the creative ways each segment entertains and teaches. And, Miracle of Mozart is a wonderful way to introduce children to classical music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knows her numbers at 14 months? Yes!, October 17, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This tape is very well put together and uses some excellent methods from early childhood education. First, it uses repetition which is one of the foundations for learning at any age. Second, it uses childrens' voices to repeat the numbers and shapes. Babies and young children tend to focus better on the voices of other children, rather than adults, because of the pitch and modulation of their voices. Third, it uses fun and upbeat music as the background for the video. This helps to retain the childs interest in what's going on on-screen. Last, but not least, the video images that have been chosen are colorful and fun to watch. There is alot of movement and activity on-screen to keep your child's attention and focus on what's being taught.

My daughter received this video when she was 8 months old. She didn't show any real interest in it until she was around 11 months. By 12 months she could say one or two numbers (in the correct place) and now at 14 months she can say almost all of them. She's also shown a greater interest in the numbers around her as well (on her toy phone, or on the mailbox, for example). She really likes me to sit with her and repeat the names of the numbers along with the tape. The shapes she's not shown as great an interest in, but her interest seems to be growing with age.

In all, I think this is an excellent video, both from an educational and entertainment perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a miracle!!, July 27, 1999
By A Customer
I have bought all the new tapes out for infants and the only ones she enjoys is the Babyscapes series. It is amazing. My 12 month old is counting with the kids voices on the Miracle of Mozart - Shapes & Numbers tape. When she hears the interlude music (which is the same on all three tapes) her face lights up. This is the series to invest in. The music is beautiful and the images are wonderful. I even enjoy watching them with her.
