This review is from: Numerical Methods for Engineers and Scientists: An Introduction with Applications Using MATLAB (Hardcover)
If you want to know more about MATLAB and its various functions, this book is for you! It also shows you different approximations and neat tips and tricks. Highly recommend for the secret nerd who wants to know how MATLAB functions are made. It's good to note that the newer addition has the same information with different problems. Other than that, they're the EXACT same.

The book is really good, and you can use for learning Matlab and even for looking-up. It is a good basis for engineers. The explanations are understandable and easy to follow.

I had his other textbooks in matlab... he is the best so far in explaining how things work, giving quick recipes in how to implement etc.

I highly recommend this book for those who are new to numerical methods :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Book, a few errors / typos. For OSU Students, November 19, 2008

This review is from: Numerical Methods for Engineers and Scientists: An Introduction with Applications Using MATLAB (Hardcover)
If you take ME250 @ OSU this is one of the two books you have to buy. There are slightly more errors than usual and if you ever get stuck / get really strange results I would look over the problems / statements because it is possible something is wrong that Gilat forgot to mention.
It does explain the concepts with examples fairly well. Gilat's lectures are a little unclear at times and this book helps alot. There are often programs and hand-calculated examples, which I find very helpful. The problems can be a little wordy / slightly unclear in the homework problems so writing out what you are solving for may be helpful.

Overall it is a pretty good book due to the examples and worked out problems.
