From the Manufacturer

About the Brand

Numi's vision is to inspire well-being of mind, body, and spirit through the simple art of tea. Numi elevates the tea experience through quality, creativity, and authenticity. We are grateful to those who contribute to our tea journey, and we hope to have a positive impact on all members of our "Communitea"--from farmer to packer to our fellow tea drinker. Conscientious of the impact of our actions, we aspire to be environmentally responsible and globally sustainable by using recyclable and biodegradable packaging and sustainable bamboo in our merchandising.

The Numi Journey

In the fall of 1999, brother and sister Ahmed and Reem had a vision-to revive the serenity, creativity, and comfort that is inspired by the simple art of tea. Both artistic souls and world explorers, the two siblings have combined their belief in the transcendental properties of tea with their individual passions for photography, art, and culture. The result of this blend was Numi Tea, a refreshing and innovative selection of teas and teasans that awaken the palate, inspire the soul, and gracefully enhance water's unique potential.

Ahmed, the master alchemist behind Numi's blends, discovered the calming simplicity of tea and herbal teasans while living in Prague, Czech Republic, where he co-owned and ran two teahouses. A distinguished photographer, Ahmed used his artistic and intuitive nature as a foundation for his innovative and artisan approach to the blending of teas.

Fluent in English, Arabic, French, German and Czech, Ahmed is a citizen of the world; each pot of Numi tea is an amalgamation of his worldly cultural knowledge, his in-depth understanding of teas, and his appreciation for quality.

Ahmed's sister Reem has a background that is almost as diverse as the selection of Numi teas. Before the advent of Numi, Reem, a biomedical engineer, moved to Italy to nurture her artistic aspirations. Reem has exhibited her artwork around the world in San Francisco, New York City, Melbourne, and Florence. But you don't need to be a globetrotter to admire her artwork--Reem's original paintings are also exhibited on each one of Numi's packages. Inspired by her brother's photos and by the meditative nature and timeless essence of tea, Reem painted Numi's artwork using oil on small tin plates, with imagery that evokes a slower, more contemplative way of being. Reem believes that tea, like art, has a universal essence and is a portal for self-reflection.

What started as a dream in Reem's small Oakland apartment moved to a lovely 25,000 squrare-foot space on the Oakland waterfront and has progressed into an exciting and delicious journey. Since its beginning, Numi has carved a distinct path in the U.S. tea world by introducing exotic teas such as Rooibos (Red Tea), Lemon Myrtle, Honeybush, and Dry Desert Lime, and also by offering full-leaf tea in teabags, without added oils or flavorings. Numi continues to pave the way and set new tea trends, most recently with the launch of the first line of Organic Puerh Tea in bags and bottles!

While I originally purchased this product knowing it was not a typical black tea, I was struck by just how odd the flavor of the brewed tea is to my palate. Far from the relatively straightforward nuances of an English breakfast black tea, the 500 year process resulting in this tea engenders some flavors I am still unable to identify. My first impression is that of an oyster-like scent, though upon drinking it this tea is still quite tasty and has no unpleasant aftertaste. I would recommend this tea only to adventurous tea connoisseurs who are ready for a departure from your typical black tea, and are prepared to sample a range of flavors that is truly more Chinese than Western in it's composition.

I first tried Puerh tea 5 years ago and ever since was willing pay for the luxurious experience.
It's hard to describe like trying to explain what a truffle tastes like.
Very earthy and savory .

I am exited I found this Numi brand it is difficult to get that whole leaf taste and this tea bag tastes like
it was prepared with the whole leaves and from a very good quality . I was expecting it to be somewhat of a knock off or similar to an Oolong but this is the real deal and I do not have to go through all the fuss to prepare it without the tea bag now.

Puerh Tea tastes better when the leaves or Tea bag is reused up to 5 times. Just make sure the bag dries completely. This is the way the Tea connoisseurs recommend drinking it. I personally use my leaves or tea bags 4 times with this type.

I love this and will repurchase again.

Being a student, I am constantly searching for something that is going to keep me awake and alert throughout the day and even the night. Coffee and 5 hour energy definitely does the trick but I hate feeling jittery, all to crash at the end of the day.

My grandpa actually gave me some Puerh cause he was trying to cut back on coffee and said it might help. I have never been a big coffee drinker so the flavor was a bit intense at first but i've grown to like it.

What I like most is it keeps me energized throughout the day but I'm not shaking and spazzing out like I would be after taking shots of energy.

I would recommend this tea to anyone who is looking for something not as intense as an energy drink or coffee but still needs something to keep them awake or alert.

My wife bought this tea at our local grocery store (Wegmans). I've never been a fan of tea at all...more of a coffee person. She got me to try the Numi Emporer's Puerh. I love it. It's got a slightly malty and earthy flavor. I also pick up a scent of hay or straw when I smell it, but not a flavor of it. There's no real after taste which is probably a good thing. Good stuff.

I would say that Pu Erh tea is as effective as the most advanced cholesterol lowering medications available. Pu Erh tea bonds to the cholesterol, retarding its absorption as it goes through the digestive tract. This means that the body does not absorb cholesterol and fat even though they were consumed. It also helps relieve any indigestion, cleanses the blood, and besides lowering the cholesterol, it's lowering the triglycerides too. All in all, it's a wonder tea. I drink it every day.

Two stars for being a great organic brand, but this tea tastes awful. It's like moldy leaves were left in soil for a week, and then you soaked them in hot water. I cover it up with milk and sugar and it's still not enjoyable. If you like black tea, Numi's breakfast blend, chai, and berry black are all fantastic.

The search for caffeine alternatives takes on new meaning in this elegant, rich, and satisfying blend. Although Numi's "Puerh" is a black tea, and does have some caffeine - in smoothness of buzz and taste it's way above Tazo's "Awake" - though the buzz does not last as long - maybe five hours per cup at the outside. I also rate it above Bija's "Yerba Mate" - a golden tea, the best over-the-counter, commercial Yerba Mate I've found, again on the basis of body and taste. There is a bit of Amazon Rainforest's "Shipo Treasure Tea" texture to the drink - sans the "muddiness", and it seems to provide as much energy boost at about half the price.

Brother in Law is a doctor and recommends it highly. He personally reduced his cholesterol significantly. He had his brother to try the teas (2 bags a day) and his went from the 230s down to 169 within one month.
