I remember this stuff from when I was a kid. It still smells just as bad and it still works just as good. I was suffering with chest congestion, coughing and hacking for over a week and after just 1 applicationd I felt much better. After the 2nd night, I was 90% better. I agree with Dallas (see review below), use an old washcloth to hold the ointment on your chest and an old undershirt to hold the washcloth in place. Then throw them away in the morning!

We used this on our 4 month old who just couldn't seem to get rid of chest congestion. It seemed to help him but I will say this has a VERY strong smell almost like the smell of tar and is very greasy. We would have to put a wash cloth on his chest at night after we had applied the ointment so it wouldn't get on his pajamas. We have a friend that says she uses papertowels. You will have to use something otherwise the clothes will be ruined.

This is the nastiest stuff known to kids and adults anywhere. I was just diagnosed with viral bronchitis. So basically nothing could be done. I loved the doctor's answer of it doesn't really work. I was sick enough to force myself to buy it -- and put some on two old wash cloths - one for the chest and the other for the back and I'm 90% better and going to do it again tonight.

Ditto the other comments about use something that can be thrown away when you are done -- this stuff reeks. But does work -- took away lots of the soreness from the coughing and broke up the congestion. For super intense relief, once on the wash cloth it can be microwaved for about 10 seconds, but be super careful you don't get a burn - it intensifies the smell and makes it slightly more comfortable to apply.
