4.0 out of 5 stars Short Film VS Movie-quite a difference!

I should have questioned when viewing on the Net why Nun of That the movie had a 2 Minute Trailer & a four & a half minute trailer. Yes I bamboozled myself into thinking the Nun of That short film ( that inspired the movie) was the trailer for the actual film & boy was I surpised when a lot of the scenes from the NOT short story simply didn't happen at...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit of Fun.
This is a movie to either enrage or amuse Catholics although there is little Catholicism in it other than the use of nun outfits (sort of) and a poke or two at some Catholic icons, notably the Pope. The song and dance routine by Jesus and his interaction with the nuns (they are after all his wives) provide the most humor. There is not really any sort of a plot in this...

This review is from: Nun of That (DVD)

I should have questioned when viewing on the Net why Nun of That the movie had a 2 Minute Trailer & a four & a half minute trailer. Yes I bamboozled myself into thinking the Nun of That short film ( that inspired the movie) was the trailer for the actual film & boy was I surpised when a lot of the scenes from the NOT short story simply didn't happen at all in the movie. Still after getting over my bout of confusion & checking the actual trailer I realised it was very true to the movie. Both versions noted above are included on this DVD, which I recommend. My only critique of the movie is that it wasn't the laughfest the originator was. Yes it had it's moments but it got a little too dark in places & when it did the comedy damage control was a little slow arriving. Sara Nicklin's Nun garb as well underwent a slight modification between the 2 versions. You decide if that matters or not. The DVD has lots of trailers, commentaries from the creators & actors as well as a behind the making of the movie feature. All in all a pretty entertaining production. They accomplished a lot here with a small budget. This movie will attain cult status some day but because of blood & gore as well as handling sensitive themes it will be a while before it gets to your TV screen. A good reason I think to buy your DVD now & Sara Nicklin is exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blasphemy CAN be funny!, January 3, 2010

Caught this at a local screening. Laughed my butt off.
This effort by director Richard Griffin has an excellent sense of irony and irreverent humor combined with excellent comic pacing.
I recommend seeing it more than once since you will very likely be laughing thru half the jokes the first time around.
It's the story of an order of vigilante nuns (The Black Habit) with a special penchant for dealing justice out to evil mobsters. There's some soft-core nudity (always nice) and every conceivable variation of nun jokes and religious humor in general.

The violence is over the top bloody without being a gorefest.

Normally I'm not one for musical numbers, but this has some real rib ticklers. Where else are you going to laugh when Jesus does a song and dance with a bevy of leather-clad nuns providing backup?

What's really tasty is the cast. Sarah Nicklin simmers with sexual attitude, Brand Aponte is perfect as the angry mob avenger and the rest of the cast CAN ACTUALLY ACT! Incredible in a low budget film, I know, but it's true. This is one of the big redeeming factors here where most low budget efforts fall flat.

Don't get my wrong, I'm a big fan of badly acted low budget features. But in those instances the bad acting is the reason I laugh. I have a very MST3000 sense of humor. But not so here. Mr. Griffin has managed to corral some real talent and it makes all the difference. One laughs at the jokes, not at the acting. With him, not at him.

So do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Unless you're devoutly religious, you'll have a great time. And even if you are and have a sense of humor, you could still find yourself in stitches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Richard Griffin Masterpiece!, January 3, 2010

This review is from: Nun of That (DVD)
If you haven't heard of Richard Griffin (and Scorpio Films), he's an independent filmmaker from RI. (Check out his other work, such as Return to the Dunwich Horror, Splatter Disco, Pretty Dead Things)The man can write anything from straight-up horror to slapstick. This film falls into more of the humor category, with some nun violence thrown in for good measure. The cast does a great job portraying these rather over the top characters so that the audience still connects with them. All I can say is, who could possibly say no to a musical number sung by Jesus himself? Do yourself a favor and check it out!

where else can you find a Jesus musicial number and Ganhdi's dojo? Seriously if you are one of those people that complains about Hollywoof and the dog turd remakes of the Flintstones and Dukes of Hazzard, then this unique and original film is for you. Then again, if you like the latest monkey puke Tom Hanks film, by all means, you seriously aren't ready for this film

The song and dance routine by Jesus and his interaction with the nuns (they are after all his wives) provide the most humor. There is not really any sort of a plot in this movie, just a send-up of religion in general and those sexy(?) nuns in particular. Not everyone's cup of tea, but then, what is?

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow wow wee wow, February 23, 2010

Funny movie. A totally class production from director Richard Griffin. In the end it comes up a little short on the exploitation factor, but still very good at what it is trying to be. I urge everyone, even Jesus's sympathetic aesthetics to check this one out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Leave Your Inhibitions at the Door, December 13, 2010
This review is from: Nun of That (DVD)
Nun of That, the title alone should tell you that if you are easily offended then this title may not be for you, but it's not what you think. This film isn't an attack on God or the Catholic Church but actually portrays them both as our protectors. Meet Sister Kelly (played by Sarah Nicklin) she is a young Nun that has a slight temper problem. Long story short she is shot and reborn as Sister Wrath and Jesus (yes that Jesus potrayed by Michael Reed who also played the Devil) tells her how to use this temper problem, by joining the Order of the Black Habit and killing the Mob in RI (I wasn't aware of a significant Mob presence there but what the heck). Sister Wrath must defeat the evil crime family led by the diabolical Mama Rizzo (played to the nines by Richard Tretheway). Can she win or will she be another victim of Rizzo's top assassin Viper Goldstein (played by David LaVallee Jr.)? This is a laugh out loud excuse to enjoy 90 minutes of your day. PS Loyd Kaufman of Troma films plays the Pope.

I love trashy movies and have a large collection of them; but this one missed the mark. The cover suckered me in but the story line sucks. The opening scenes are good but it goes down hill from there. I don't expect good acting or fantastic production values in trashy indie movies but this one feels too amateurish - just didn't kick my ass. I got up half way through it and did other things while it played in the background. If the movie was 50% as good as the cover suggests I'd be giving it high ratings. Sorry Sister - but I will stay after school if you want.
