5.0 out of 5 stars Love 'em!
This is the first "Nunsense" show I've ever seen and it is freakin' hilarious and also very moving. Apart from being great comedians, these nuns and Father Virgil have great voices. Wish I could say the same for Rue McLachanan. Favorite moments:

1. Intro

2. "A time when Robert Anne sneaks out to Clancy's for a beer"

3. Ball-breaker...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not as good as the original
Of course, what IS as good as its original?

While some of the original cast are still present (especially Rue McClanahan and the wonderful Semina De Laurentis) many are not -- including Christina Toy Johnson and Terri White -- which is a pity as I had gotten to like the original cast and characters.

This time out, the sisters have a cable...

5. "We'll fix it in the edit."

6. Santa Ain't Comin' to Our House

7. Sister Julia, Child of God

8. The Nutcracker (Take Two)

9. Jesus Was Born in Brooklyn (very moving)

10. In The Convent

11. We Three Kings of Orient Are Us (with references to Tom Cruise and Harrod's and a salad shooter)

12. Catholic Home Shopping Service

13. It's Better to Give Than it Is To Receive

These are the specifics but I haven't been too specific about them because I don't want to ruin it for y'all. So what are you all waiting for? Get this DVD but get it around Christmas because it'll look weird if you do it at this time of year. Also, there is a special video insert cameo by John Ritter. It's very moving and very sad because Mr. Ritter is no longer with us. Buy Nuncrackers!

Of course, what IS as good as its original?

While some of the original cast are still present (especially Rue McClanahan and the wonderful Semina De Laurentis) many are not -- including Christina Toy Johnson and Terri White -- which is a pity as I had gotten to like the original cast and characters.

This time out, the sisters have a cable access studio and have decided to make a Christmas special. The show is full of original songs by Dan Goggin, the creator of "Nunsense," is directed by David Stern who did the original so he knows how to work this material to its best advantage, and all the songs have the same feel as Goggin's original tunes although perhaps not quite as catchy overall. But with great titles such as "The Twelve Days Prior to Christmas" you can expect some funny stuff.

Of all the incarnations of "Nunsense," I would place this a solid third behind "Nunsense," and "Nunsense 2: the Sequel" and miles above both the Vicki Lawrence "Nunsense Jamboree" and the oh-why-did-they-do-that "Nunsensations! The Vegas Review."

If you have the first two editions of the Nunsense world, this is a good add and worth the time and cost. But stop here. Do not proceed beyond this point. If you have, come back to this one for a renewal of your Nunsense faith.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Mt. St. Helen's version of the Nutcracker", January 15, 2006

Thank the Deity, someone had the good "nunsense" to bring back the original Sr. Mary Paul and Rue McClanahan. What happened to Srs. Robert Ann, Mary Leo, and Mary Hubert? Though cute and entertaining, the original cast is still the best. In addition. let Sr. Amnesia take care of Sr. Mary Annette, the puppet. If you're a Nunsense fan, I'd recommend buying it, but beware, it's not as good as 1 and 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nun Lovers Unite!!!, June 26, 2004
By A Customer
I must admit, I have a weird obsession with nuns. Indeed I do. It started a year and a half ago, in the 7th grade. When my best friend gave me this for Christmas, I was thrilled. The musical numbers are creative, the sketches are hilarious, and the jokes are, well, good. As a Golden Girls fan (that's another thing, I really like elderly women) I was pleased with Rue's performance as Sister Mary Regina. I die when I hear "We Three Kings of Orient Are Us", come very close to wetting myself when Father Virgil dresses up like Sister Julia (Child of God), and almost popped a blood vessel when I saw John Ritter narate Mount St. Helen's production the The Nutcracker. Even St. Amnesia was pleasing, especially by giving to those in need.
PS- I <3 Sister Mary Annette

4.0 out of 5 stars At times amusing... enjoyable holiday fare..., December 23, 2009

I gave this four stars, probably because there are so FEW Christmas musicals on the market, and because it is interesting to see a filmed version of a stage (off-Broadway) musical, with the interaction between the actors and audience. That said, I had hoped this show would be better; while I never saw NUNSENSE, my parents did, and raved up and down about the show. (Ironically this taping seems filled with JUST folks of my parents age, so maybe it is just ME? LOL) Nuncrackers has its good and amusing moments... though I was disappointed with Rue, I didn't think she added much to the show (though a better script would have helped). John Ritter adds nothing to this show - except his name and face, really, and was the big disapointment! The songs aren't bad, though none are all that great either... the supporting staff of other 'nuns' and 'students' do a great job with the material they were given (script and songs). I suppose I'd rate this - if I could, really - at 3-1/2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Cheer, November 10, 2006
Start with the Nuncrackers script and you'd have to be pretty bad to produce a bomb. Well, this cast and crew ain't bad and the production does full justice to a hilarious script. The crazy Nunsense convent is doing a Christmas TV special and, of course, Murphy's Law is the first of the Rules of this Order. Try not to shoot eggnog out your nose at the cooking sequence and don't plan on sitting still through their take on "We Three Kings". I just wish we really could order their advertised products.

3.0 out of 5 stars Still a Decent Laugh, June 25, 2008
Nuncrackers is not quite as funny as the original Nunsense but still entertaining. I bought this primarily because this fall the theatre group I'm in is doing this show in the fall.

This play/movie starts very slowly and it takes until Father Vergil does his cooking segment at the end of Act One and the dueling Sugar Plum fairy's to really start the show rolling. Some of my favorite moments come in the second act when the nuns perform "In the Convent" and "We Three Kings of Orient Are Us".

Overall, entertaining but probably would be enjoyed more in real life.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nuncrackers, May 6, 2007
I ordered this to add to my collection. It was ok. Not as good as Nunsense. Kind of slow. It has a few good songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nunsense, can't go wrong, but liked the original actors better, January 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Funny, Hilarious. But it does have some slow parts, sad parts, touchy parts and narrated parts by John Ritter.
Not all original cast members from Nunsense.

Sister Amnesia was HILARIOUS.

Great holiday show. Can't wait until their next one.

Can't go wrong with these Nuns at a great price!
