5.0 out of 5 stars The Nurse and the Communicatively Impaired Adult, June 21, 2007
This text and handbook instructs nurses and other health professionals in the practical application of principles used in communicating with speech - and hearing - impaired adults. Separate chapters focus on the communicative disabilities resulting from a stroke, head and neck cancer, voice problems, and hearing loss. The author describes each disorder and its impact on the communication of the patient, as well as the role of the nurse and the speech pathologist or audiologist.

The content is based on the author's extensive clinical experience in VA hospitals and on his work as an educator, and is supported by case studies and material from current nursing and communicative disorders literature. References, suggested readings, and community resources are included for further information. Designed to accompany continuing education workshops and inservice training programs, this volume is also a concise reference for use on a hospital ward or in a nursing home.
