5.0 out of 5 stars Great Folk (Dare I Say Crossover?) Music
This is pure, unadulterated folk music with a modern edge. Abana Ba Nasery touches themes of community, family and personal hardship on their record, yet it maintains a cheerful optimism that you can grasp without understanding the lyrics.

ABN is made up of some talented musicians, and this record benefits from their virtuosity as well as from the high...

3.0 out of 5 stars Riverdance?
I was enjoying this CD until I got to track 6 and suddenly I thought I was listening to a Riverdance CD. As the Kenyan Culture Host at BellaOnline.com I'm giving this CD 3 stars as it lacks a certain authenticity was is found in their other CD titled "Classical Accoustic Recordings from Western Kenya". 3.0 out of 5 stars Riverdance?, October 17, 2000
This review is from: Nursery Boys Go Ahead (Audio CD)
I was enjoying this CD until I got to track 6 and suddenly I thought I was listening to a Riverdance CD. As the Kenyan Culture Host at BellaOnline.com I'm giving this CD 3 stars as it lacks a certain authenticity was is found in their other CD titled "Classical Accoustic Recordings from Western Kenya". I highly recommend "Classical" instead of this one. A better set of music from this Luo band than the more polished music of this CD.

ABN is made up of some talented musicians, and this record benefits from their virtuosity as well as from the high production values involved in this recording. Anybody with even a passing interest in folk music (African or other) should give a listen to the "guitar and bottle kings of Kenya".

5.0 out of 5 stars joyous, March 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Nursery Boys Go Ahead (Audio CD)
I highly recommend this CD for anyone who likes rollicking good guitar music, lilting melodies, and music that is happy and uplifting from start to finish. I bought this CD as a follow-up to my recent discovery of African juju music. While this CD is mostly acoustic, performed by a much smaller group than most juju, and lacking in the use of talking drums, it has some many of the qualities that make juju so enjoyable--not least of which is some Hawaiian sounding steel guitar. I have no idea what the lyrics are about, but they clearly convey joy. Great fun.
