Perfect Intro To Good Music Via Classic Nursery Rhymes,

This is a wonderful CD, perfect for introducing children to good music and these classic nursery rhymes. The little ones will want to hear the rhymes sung over and over, and parents won't mind the repetition because of Robin Hendrix's beautiful, secure voice and pianist Michel Prezman's dramatic rendering of J. W. Elliot's Victorian scores.Ms. Hendrix addresses these 46 nursery songs with the proper high seriousness of their Victorian origins (1870). Her voice is so elegant and graceful, you visualize her as a loving fairy godmother sprinkling starshine on her charges. A lilting, confident, and reassuring good humor undergirds the songs whether Hendrix is treating of a slightly scary "Spider and the Fly," comic "Simple Simon," pompous kings and politicians, "Ding Dong Bell," "Sing a Song of Sixpence," the lovely "When the Snow is on the Ground" -- whatever the rhyme and Mr. Prezman's excellent interpretation of the music require. I'm putting my wallet to work. I already have three copies of this CD and today I'm buying three more. I'm betting that these CDs will keep the joy of these nursery songs alive for my grandchildren long after I have been packed away.

As a teacher of very young children, I am always looking for music. Music children can work to and relax to. My children love Three Little Mice which we listen to while having snack. Robin has a beautiful voice!! the next Diva of Jersey City. The music is soothing!!

I was looking for a "classic" gimmick-free version of nursery rhymes and songs, and I nearly passed this one by because of a few reviews. Luckily I downloded a sampling of several of the songs sung by Robin Hendrix. They were exactly what I wanted. I ordered the CD for my son and he loves it --- and the foldout panel with the various pictures of Georgie Porgie and The Cat and The Fiddle, really got his attention. I highly recommend listening to the songs before buying the CD and that way, you'll know exactly what you're getting ... simple music and text of the much-loved nursery rhymes and songs.

Purely text and music,

It appears that our American cousins have rediscovered the nurseryrhymes as they were meant to be heard - purely text and music, unadulterated by electronic whistles, gongs, drums and the like. Kudos to Robin Hendrix and Michel Prezman.

Disappointed - opera-like singer, hard to understand,

I was disappointed with this purchase. I listen to a lot of classical music and opera and was excited to hear about this classic as nursery rhymes are important for language development.....Anway, I don't know the proper term to describe the singer's voice, but it is very formal, like opera and very hard to understand the words. Not able to learn words and sing along. I listen to NPR/classical music/opera all day long and did not enjoy listening to this even once.

I wasn't able to listen to any tracks of this CD before buying it. Now that I've removed the plastic and listened, I can't return it, so thought I'd at least warn others. I was expecting more of a folk style, and this is classical, almost operatic music. I like classical music and even opera, but found it really awful in this context. We only listened to about 5 minutes in the car before I had to turn it off. My son (almost 2), however, was laughing. Maybe he likes it. I'll be sure to read more reviews and listen to lots of tracks in the future.

I think some people may have missed the point. This cd is victorian era nursery rhymes sung and arranged wonderfully, it is NOT Barney. Children will love it. I am a Children's Librarian and play this cd before story times. The children are very interested and entertained. This is a great chance to introduce classical music to children and help to enrich their lives. Give it a chance, it will help round out your children's experiences, and likely your own as well.

dull and boring,

I bought this based on the great ratings, good reviews and the bit about how this was wonderful music for both adults and children. I am an opera goer and yet the singing left me cold.My son won't listen to it for a moment (but will hum in tune to other classical music orchestrated for kids, like the Baby Einstein CDs). I've owned it for a year and barely listened to it for more than a few minutes at a time perhaps 3 times! A bad (and relatively expensive) buy. |
