Editorial Reviews

Review

I am so excited: a book about night-weaning a toddler who still sleeps in bed with you! What a joy. I was sent this book and we LOVE it. Its simple, illustrated so delicately, and shows bed-sharing and a supportive papa, and such a neat relationship. I highly recommend it! --Mayim Bialik, actress and author of the new Attachment Parenting book Beyond the Sling

The text is simple and tender.. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. The joyous expression on the child s face when at last the sun has risen is just unmistakable. And the father kissing the baby's head while she nurses is precious. I've met so many co-sleeping mothers of toddlers who find themselves acting as an open bar at night. And it's hard to explain, in a way that a toddler can understand, that you want to sleep at night. By using the sun as a guidepost, this book does a beautiful job of gently introducing a system that can work for everyone --Tanya Lieberman, IBCLC, Motherwear.com Breastfeeding blog

The marriage of stunning atmospheric illustrations and affectionate text create a perfect keepsake treasure. --thealphaparent.com --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is a lovely little book to help with night weaning a child who sleeps with mama and papa... And the cat.

My son will even repeat phrases out of the book now, and he requests that we read it quite often.

I am currently 3 months pregnant with my second baby, and still nursing my 2 1/2 year toddler. However, nursing through pregnancy, specifically at night, was becoming increasingly painful and difficult. It was time for the 24 hour all-you-can-eat snack bar to come to a close! Well, we are on night FIVE... My 2 1/2 year old is now night weaned and SLEEPING THROUGH 11+ hours!!! This book has been a glorious accompaniment to our gentle night weaning plan, and is my daughter's current favorite read! Now, I am only waking once a night to pee and to snack (thank you, baby en utero), but hey, at least it is no longer 4 times a night to twilight feed my toddler! THANK YOU! :)

Where do I even begin to write about what a beautiful book this is? First of all, I love that it is a breastfeeding book for children. If you have ever tried to find a children's breastfeeding book, there aren't that many choices. Secondly, it is written simply, yet eloquently. Katherine uses simple phrases and words that your child will understand. Night weaning can be a difficult process and this book puts the process into words a child can understand. Third, it is written from a loving perspective. No talk of crying or any being left alone. And finally, the illustrations are stunning. They are wall-worthy! The last photo will bring tears to your eyes. Oh, I also like that the child is not gender specific, so you don't have to worry that it is for a boy or girl, it is for all children.

Overall, a must have book for any family with breastfeeding children!

I purchased this book to help with night weaning my 17 month old and I really think it's what did the trick. I had tried previously and he was a mess. After reading this book to him for a couple weeks we tried again and no problems, and minimal crying! I highly recommend it.

My very young toddler loves this book! She wants to read it every day. I would recommend this for any breastfeeding/bed sharing infant or toddler, only caveat is that this is not a board book, all pages, including the cover are flexible and thin.
It has one or two lines per beautiful colored page, very easy to read to your baby. The story is simply a family going to bed at night, the child waking up in the middle of the night (seeing that it is still dark outside), and then again in the morning to nurse. It is supposed to give the child the idea, that nursing is a daytime activity "when the sun shines". The last two pages give advice on how to nightwean. I think that any breastfeeding baby, whether presently weaning or not, will enjoy looking at this book, simply showing a family's love and night/morning ritual. 5 Stars!

I bought this book to use with my 15-month old. I'm not actively trying particularly hard to night wean, but I wanted to start gently introducing her to the idea of it which this book has been helpful with. I appreciate that the book portrays a co-sleeping family with a nursing toddler since that's what we do. This is the only children's book I've ever seen (though I'm sure others exist) that talks about nursing instead of bottle feeding. The illustrations are beautiful and there are a lot of opportunities for conversation on each page -- kitty, mommy, daddy, baby, night/day, sleeping/awake. The author has also included suggestions in the back of the book on how to gently night wean and how to use this book to do so. I found it very helpful and would recommend it to any parent starting a gentle, slow journey of night weaning.

We are currently in the process of night weaning our two year old. I absolutely LOVE this book and would absolutely recommend it to any mama out there that is going through the night weaning process! The book is well written and simple enough for my young toddler to understand. We read it every night before bed and look out the window to see if it's dark or light. I love this book with my whole soul!

My 2 yr old daughter loves this book! I used this when I night weaned her and it totally worked! Now, I'm down to only morning nursies and she's totally fine with it, and this book is still very applicable! Very adorable book for the older nurslings!

The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. We got this several months ago but my daughter didn't seem to get it. We are just about to try night weaning so I am reading it to her and at 22 months she seems to enjoy it. I can tell she really relates to the toddler in the book and is delighted when we get to the part where she nurses in the morning while getting a kiss from dad. The author gives tips at the back which are smart and helpful. If you don't co-sleep this probably wouldn't work because it's all about the family sleeping together - but it's perfect for the majority who are looking for gentle night weaning help.
