5.0 out of 5 stars Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A guide to planning care
This book is a must have for every nurse! It is fabulous for many reasons. One, Ackley and Ladwig begin the text by a section, 112 pages long, of medical diagnosis accompanied by the most common nursing diagnosis that the pt would have. This is very helpful to get you thinking and to point out potential diagnosis to keep your eyes out for when treating a patient. Later...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A guide to planning care, April 27, 2000

Later the authors go into detail on each NANDA diagnosis. The definition, defining characteristics, related factors, and suggested outcomes are described. Next, interventions are discussed with the scientific rational in italics for very smooth and continuos reading. Interventions are subdivided into geriatrics, infants/children, as well as the average adult patient. Home care interventions are included along with client/family teaching tips - very helpful. To top it off, the authors included at the end of each diagnosis web sites for more information as well as further references. This book is compact, light weight, and includes a wealth of information helpful in any care plan. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, easy to follow, March 18, 2005
This review is from: Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care (Paperback)
I have several nursing diagnosis handbooks but this one takes the cake. I don't actually own it because I spent so much money on other books that were much less helpful. Luckily the learning lab at school owns it and I'm able to use it often. The feature that I like the most is that there is rationale given for most interventions. Rationale is always required in my care plans and many books don't provide it. It has saved me a huge amount of time because instead of searching through my med-surg books, I have the rationale right there. I also like that there are interventions specific to pediatric and geriatric patients; another feature that is lacking in other books. Lastly, the interventions that are provided are very thorough. I found that when using other books my professors would mark me off for not being specific enough. Once I began using this book I was right on target. In my opinion, if you can only afford to buy one book (and who wants more than one anyway), this is the one you should own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value for the money, November 16, 2001
By A Customer
Of the five or so diagnosis handbooks that I have purchased, this one is the one that I reference the most when doing care plans and research - the least expensive too. For the money, this is the most helpful book that you will find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gift from God!!!, February 7, 2003

Had to write my first care plan/case study. I have no idea what I would have done without this book. Making a nursing diagnosis and care planning for a student nurse can be a complex process. This book just brings it all together. It includes not only the nursing diagnosis, but rationales for nursing interventions and outcomes. Other students in the class have purchased other Care Plan books, however, most of the have been asking to look at mine. Two of them have already ordered their own. I will continue to recommend this book to everyone .

If you are looking for something to help you learn nursing diagnosis, and with ease, this book is for you. It begins with all different disorders and diseases, and under the disorder is the ND or ND's that go with that particular disease!!
It's great- even better than the Carpintenio books, and I have both!!
With each NANDA diagnosis it has the defining characteristics, R/t factors NIC and NOC outcomes, tons of nursing interventions and rationals also!! Each NANDA diagnosis also includes Geriatric, home care, and client family teaching, interventions, and rationals for each specific NANDA diagnosis. This book is PACKED FULL of help for those long dreaded care plans!!

BEST nursing diagnosis out there! I will never buy another nursing diagnosis book unless it has the Ackley name on it. All of us SWEAR by it. It makes writing the ADPIE's easy and there are pages and pages of interventions. Much better then the pocket sized book and VERY worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Careplan Book I've Used..., February 24, 2005
This review is from: Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care (Paperback)
I have 4 careplan books and this is the only one I use after two years of nursing school. The interventions are unique and the rationales are very detailed. And I love that they include nursing research in the rationales as well. Plus I REALLY like the companion website that goes with the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best.. . . ., August 1, 2004

Even though my personal favorite care plan book is Sheila Sparks, Nursing Diagnosis Reference Manual, this one comes in a very close second. . . Excellent interventions and related rationales (although the rationales are sometimes too brief for my taste). The client / family teaching section is wonderful and worth the price of admission alone. Overall: very good. Hard to go wrong with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nursind Diagnosis Handbook, April 8, 2004

This review is from: Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care (Paperback)
This book rocks! I consistently get better grades than my fellow students and they don't believe me when I tell them that it is this book! It is their loss because I make at least one letter grade higher in all my classes! This book not only gives lots of great common-sense nursing interventions, but carefully explains the rationale for all of them!!!! Lists hundreds of potential nursing diagnosis and this book is VERY easy to use! If you buy one book in nursing school, let this be it!!!
