A must-read! Brilliant insight into Moses' role as a leader., July 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nursing Father: Moses as a Political Leader (Paperback)
Wildavsky makes a compelling argument about the narrative in the latter four books of the Pentateuch: it is about leadership. Moses' role in transforming the Jews from runaway slaves to a nation, the Jews' reactions to his leadership, and the impact of the above on key events in the biblical narrative are analyzed in detail. Wildavsky brings to bear on this formidable topic his considerable expertise as a political scientist.
As an observant Jew who has studied the Pentateuch for over 25 years, I can honestly say that "The Nursing Father" opened up a brand new perspective for me on the inner meaning of the Torah. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.
