This fourth edition presents students with the background in issues and trends necessary to professional nursing. The book covers a broad range of topics, such as nursing education, credentialing, legal and ethical issues, the health care delivery system, the political process, and career opportunities. Aiming to prepare students to face issues they will have to confront in practice, this book explores conflicts that may arise on the job and how to resolve them. Features of this fourth edition include a chapter which explores topics such as hospital organization, staffing, care delivery models and a variety of other pertinent matters. Other specific discussions include innovations in nursing education; the test plan for licensure examination and computerized testing; laws that affect nursing practice; ethical concerns, for example Cruzon, Roe vs Wade; ownership of organs; euthanasia; durable power of attourney; political action committees; and the "right to know" regarding hazards in the working environment.

Lots of words, little meaning,

I am a nursing student, and I spend alot of time with my textbooks. I usually enjoy reading the chapters as I learn much more from books than I do in class.
I regret to say this book is one of the worst I have come across. Paragraph after paragraph of poor organization and pompous fluff is packed in this book. The book is very poorly organized and communicates almost NOTHING. I realize textbooks cannot fluster anyones feathers so they must be as politically correct as possible, but this book tiptoes around even the most basic uncontroversial issues. If you do not need this for class and want an overview of nursing, I recommend Fundamentals of Nursing by Potter & Parry. It is WAY better organized than this worthless book.

Book arrived in great condition. Will work perfect for my study of Excelsior College RN program. I am a Paramedic taking the bridge to RN so this is a great reference for the materials being asked about in the exams.
