Wonderful Nursing Reference,
By
This review is from: Nursing Your Baby 4e (Paperback)
Deciding to breastfeed a baby nowadays is much easier if you have some solid information on your side. This book gives it to you--lots of it. Karen and Gale Pryor are not, however, as preachy as some nursing books can be, which I appreciated. This is a calm, cool discussion of the benefits of breastfeeding, a solid how-to manual including problems you may have and thier solutions, and a discussion of how/why to keep going beyond the first three or six months. Very informative, very nice style of writing, enjoyable and comforting to read for a first-time mom. Highly recommended!

The ONLY book I wish I had read before baby was born!,
By
This review is from: Nursing Your Baby 4e (Paperback)
I bought all of the common pregnancy books - "What to Expect..." and "Your Pregnancy Week by Week..." but I didn't buy this book until after my baby was born and I needed more information on nursing her. This book was WONDERFUL, and I could barely put it down- despite being totally exhausted. It was so much more than a nursing reference. It was everthing I wish I had known prior to giving birth. Honestly, if you are going to have a baby, buy this book before birth and read it cover to cover while you still have the time and are not falling asleep every chance you get. :) If you have a new baby- get this book. No one tells you these things in the hospital but they should.

More than 5 stars,

Read this book before your baby is born. Read this book after your baby is born. Keep re-reading this book. It is loaded with excellent information about breastfeeding. I was given this book when my first was born and found it an excellent motivator to keep going when the nursing got tough or when I found myself having twins (twice) and had doubts about my ability to nurse. You will get tons of "free gifts" from the formula companies at the hospital. Arm yourself with good info so you can separate fact from propaganda. ***Have dads read it too, their support is vital to successful nursing.***

Best Nursing Book!,

This review is from: Nursing Your Baby 4e (Paperback)
This book is a must on any new breastfeeding mom's list of items to buy or receive. I was given this book as a gift. Therefore, I like to return the favor and give it to new moms whom I know are planning to nurse at their baby shower's around the 7 month of pregnancy. I don't believe this book is preachy, it just gives you the facts and stats about breastfeed babies. Easy to read, good directions, and best part for me was reading about the growth spurts relating to supply and demand. Great book!!

This review is from: Nursing Your Baby 4e (Paperback)
This book allowed me to successfully nurse my baby from day one! It is filled with both information about why nursing is better than formula, as well as with VERY positive advice and ENCOURAGEMENT from two nursing vetrans! It is an interesting and informative read. Contains LOTS of infomation on positioning and how to get started nursing from day one. Also includes sections on nursing the older baby and nursing problems. Makes you feel confident that you CAN nurse your baby! LOVED IT!

The Best Breastfeeding Book out there,
This review is from: Nursing Your Baby 4e (Paperback)
My mom had to buy me this book when I was pregnant because she said it was the ONLY thing that helped her continue to breastfeed me (a barracuda nurser). I couldn't put this down. I didn't find it preachy at all, and on top of that, WE ALL KNOW BREAST IS BEST!
I still keep this book by my side even now (my son is 12 mos). Whenever I need a reason to continue or a pick me up, I read the history of breastfeeding. I'm in the 16% of women who make it to 12 months & I am proud of that. I'm happy that breastfeeding is making a come back and there seems to be more and more support for women. This book has been an encouragement and a motivator. I will buy it for every first mother! I liked Pryors' approach to this book. I read a few other breastfeeding books, but this one was the best overall - organized by history, breastfeeing basics, and trouble-shooting. -Born to Breastfeed!

I was not as pleased with this breastfeeding book compared to the others I ordered. Maybe it was just not written in a style that was comfortable or informative for me. If you are only going to buy one or two breastfeeding books, I would pass on this one for one that is more informative and/or written by certified lactation experts.

This has been around a while, but I still think it is one of the best books on breastfeeding, written in a friendly, down-to-earth style. It covers all the important how to's, but it is not preachy or dogmatic.

Informative Book About Breast Feeding,

This review is from: Nursing Your Baby 4e (Paperback)
This is a very informative book about breast feeding. While it covers the basics of how to breastfeed, the majority of the book is about why breastfeeding benefits baby and the mother. It also covers social issues related to breastfeeding. At times I felt I was reading a science article more than a "how-to" manual, but that isn't so bad if you have time to read up on it. I learned more from this book than I expected.

I used this book--a prior edition in 1976 and 1982 when I had my girls. It was my bible for nursing and I have recommended it for any mother who wants to nurse. I read it before I had my babies and read it again and again while I was nursing.
