About the Author

E. T. A. Hoffman (1776-1822) was a short-story writer and novelist who ranked among the major figures of German romanticism. He was also a composer, designer, music critic, and a conductor of the Leipzig and Dresden operas. He is best known for creating the story of the Nutcracker, which was set to music by Peter Llyich Tchaikovsky in 1892, becoming an instant classic.

My daughters are still too young to sit through the whole story, but I wanted to get this (at a fantastic bargain price) for next Christmas when my oldest will be almost 5 and able to handle one chapter each evening. It's true to the original text with gorgeous illustrations. A classic that I know we will enjoy for many years. I bought a second copy for a friend's family, and they are also looking forward to December to read it as a family.

The story of the Nutcracker is well told in this adaptation. The illustrations are beautiful. It is a picture book but is also long enough to be a good read. My three year old son sat enraptured while I read it (and he hardly ever sits still)! I will buy more for friends.

My collection of Nutcracker books got a boost with this wonderfully illustrated version. The little grandchildren love the story and always anticipate a time before Christmas when Grandma gets out the nutcrackers followed by a cup of hot chocolate and the story of the nutcracker. The book arrived in excellent condition and in unsurpassed processing time. Give yourself a treat with a child and the story of the Nutcracker. . . make it a holiday tradition!!
