Product Description

Denamarin contains SAMe which markedly increases liver glutathione levels, a potent antioxidant. SAMe also helps protect liver cells from cell death and may help cell repair and regeneration. Denamarin also has Silybin, the most active part of an extract from milk thistle. Silybin acts as an antioxidant and stimulates the flow of bile through the liver to aid in the digestion and absorption of nutrients from your pet's diet. Silybin also helps with liver cell regeneration and may enhance levels of glutathione, the liver's major "detoxifying" agent.

First, I'm writing this as a caring consumer whose dog has stage 4 lymphoma and has been helped by this supplement to improve his liver function. I've been using the large blue pill in the foil for medium size dogs for several months. This product really works. I was overjoyed when I saw a "chewable" version online and for much less money. If you have mastered a way of giving your dog the blue pill, then stick with that. The chewable pill is twice almost 3 times the size of the blue pill. I had to break the chewable into 6 smaller pieces just to try and give the supplement to my 19 lb dog. I tried to disguise the chewable treat in fresh cooked chicken. My dog picked and spat out every single piece. It must smell THAT bad. This product really works. If your dog is even slightly finicky, skip the chewables and stick with getting the blue pill down in one fell swoop. I'm back on Amazon and having to rush ship the blue pills because the chewables are a total loss. Just FYI.

I was a little leary about ordering this product online, because I didn't know what I'd be getting. Finally, I thought for the money, not a big loss if it wasn't what it should be. This is exactly the product I got from my vet, same packaging, same everything. It is a much better price here. Very happy with this, seeing I am spending so much money on my dog for her liver disease. Not that money should be the deciding factor to help my dog.....it isn't. Still, every penney saved is a big help.

Out 11 yr old Scotty had a nail bed infection...ended up with amputation. Her liver levels were terrible and she was very lethargic. The vet recommended Denamarin and 3 wks later she was trotting, 6 wks later she was chasing squirrels! She's much more alert and frisky. Her coat is healthier. Hasn't been this happy in years. Great product!

I always order this product on line and then I call Nutramax to check the lot number to make sure it is the real product. I have never been disappointed.

What I am disappointed in is the packaging that the product is mailed in. It is too small and the product gets crushed and some of the sleeves of the medicine get broken making the product un-usuable. If they would ship it in an appropriate shipping box the order would be perfect ... no other complaints.

Before I review the actual product, I have to complain about the sudden price hike, last week this product was $39 now it's gone up to $49?? I only bought it on Amazon because it was cheaper than my vet, not anymore! Plus, what's with the 1 - 2 months before shipping? I'm able to get this at several vets in my area, one sells it for around $40., buying it for the same price with free shipping on Amazon was a simple convenience.

Anyway, my dog takes high dose steroids, his liver levels where high among other problems. Medications like steroids and seizure meds will effect the liver function and long term these meds will eventually cause liver failure. An ER vet gave these to him one night and ever since then my dog has been doing great, these really helped him get back to normal! I've had his liver function tested several times since he started these and the levels have been perfect with the exception of one slight elevation that is to be expected with steroid use! My dog has a digestive disease and getting his liver and protein level back to normal was very important to help manage his disease, if the levels are not right he is very ill, I feel that these supplements helped my dog get back to normal which in turn helped him to gain back the weight he had lost. I honestly thought he wasn't going to live more than a month or two, he was looking really bad. I started him on these and stuck with his normal healthy diet and he bounced right back and has stayed that way.

Look around though, the prices vary everywhere, I wouldn't spend more than $40.on them.

UPDATE: I see they dropped the price again, back to $37, that's better. Not sure why the price fluctuates so much! Still would like to be able to get it when I need it though, waiting months isn't ideal.

I am grateful that Amazon.com is carrying Denamarin for dogs with liver problems. When my vet diagnosed our dog with liver disease, I was wondering how we would add the monthly expense to our budget. Amazon's service, which includes free shipping, is helpful. What would be more helpful is if Amazon would stock the chewable form of the medicine. My dog will eat the chewable form with his breakfast. With the non-chewable form, sent by Amazon.com, I have to smoosh the pill in canned dog food, pop it down the back of his throat, gently hold his mouth shut, and stroke his throat until he swallows it. This is not his favorite activity. Please consider this option.

Please read this. This is not a ding against this product, only advise on the delivery system of it to your pet. I have a wire haired terrier. I was told by my vet to go on here and get this for her for liver problems. I got the med size tabs for 13 pounds to 34 pounds, since the normal weight of my dog is 13.5 to 14.5. There are very specific directions to follow when administering these tablets that must be followed, or the tabs will be useless. The pills must be given with no food or at the most a tiny bite of food. You are not suppose to break them up and give part of it later, as the contents are rendered useless if exposed to air for more than a minute or two. This size pill is about 3/4" long and 1/4 wide. (No way was I going to get this tab in one piece down my little dogs throat without choking her. I ended up cutting the pill in pieces with a pill cutter then crushing it to a powder with a rolling pin and making a little pocket out of some soft dog food (a small as possible piece of food) and putting the powder inside, then pushing that down her throat, as she is not willing to eat much at this time. Now I called the Nutramax people themselves and talked with a rep who said what I did was ok, just as long as the amount of food was tiny, as it needs to be given on an empty stomach. I concluded after all this that I should have gotten the pills for cats and small dogs, even though the weight is less than my dog. They are 1/4" in dia, according to Nutramax rep I talked to, and round. 90 milligrams so I will need to give 2-3 tabs a day instead of the one horse pill, but this will enable me to not break them open. And a smaller amount of food will be needed to wrap around the pill, thus being closer to the recommended dosing procedure. Live and learn.Read more ›
