I do feel that spirulina helps with my energy level.
cserhus
It applies to all Hawaiian spirulina, under any brand, as it is all manufactured by Cyanotech, the owners of the Nutrex brand.

It has a very mild taste and i mix it with fruit juice, protein shakes, super fruit greens, and even water.

[*** Feb 2013 - I have now integrated the MANY updates I had posted on this review over the past few years. It should be a little easier to follow, I hope! I have made use of << HEADINGS >> to try and make it easier to jump to the info that is of most interest to you. It's still a lot of reading, so only read the In Brief part if you're not the type who likes so much info]

With this brand of Spirulina you are on to a good thing! Especially as far as taste and quality are concerned.

<< IN BRIEF - THE CONDENSED REVIEW >>

Simply put, after 20+ years of Spirulina usage, this is the best Spirulina I know of, at one of the the best prices (and shipping options) I have seen anywhere online and off-line. If great tasting Spirulina is what you are looking for, this is the one to buy. Forget the slightly cheaper non-Hawaiian varieties (from India, China, etc.).
If you've never had spirulina, try this one. If you've had (non-Hawaiian) spirulina and didn't like the taste, try this one. That's my review in a nutshell.

As is typical for me, I like to share detailed information where appropriate, so that people like yourself can inform yourself if you so desire. So... for my more in-depth info, please read on:

<< FULL REVIEW - THE FULL MONTY >>

Let me first put this review into a helpful context.

I have been eating Spirulina on an almost daily basis for approximately the past 20 years. Since my mid-teens I've been making big green looking smoothies every morning. My father and I affectionately refer to them as my "Swamp Water" or "Swamp juice".

This particular Spirulina is from a fantastic high-tech Spirulina production facility on the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

There seems to be some confusion among reviewers over whether or not this Hawaiian grown spirulina is organic or not and how it compares to other spirulina products. I researched spirulina myself because I am concerned about the products I consume. What I found out was that most of the "Hawaiian Spirulina" that reviewers are referring to are produced by a company in Hawaii called Cyanotech Corp (under the labels of Nutrex and others). This company doesn't have "Organic" certification. It is my understanding that non-organically grown spirulinas such as this one (a/k/a "All Natural") rely on chemically based fertilizers to grow their spirulina (which is not allowed under Organic standards) -- and as a result can only call it "all natural".

There is only one certified producer of organic spirulina that I know of. That company is Parry Nutraceuticals (parrynutraceuticals.com) and they are located in Southern India and have received organic certifications under the USDA, the IMO in Switzerland and Naturland in Germany. Read the FAQs on their website -- it is very interesting. They also received a prestigious certification from the US Pharmacopeia which allows them to use the "USP Ingredient Verified Mark" on their spirulina powder. That mark ensures the quality of their product and the claims regarding purity, limits of contamination, etc. I also found out that they are the first spirulina manufacturer in the world to receive that designation.

I found out the the NOW Foods Organic Spirulina is from Parry Nutraceuticals and I also found out that the Swanson brand of Organic Spirulina (in tablets) is also from Parry. I'm sure there are many others too, but I didn't spend any more time looking into it since both of these items are available at the swansonvitamins.com website, which is where I typically shop for supplements.

I'm now 23 and I've been battling acne since I was about 10 years old. There hasn't been a day since that first zit popped up that I've been totally acne free- until I found Spirulina!

Over the years, I have tried over the counter products such as Proactiv, Clearasil, NOxzema, etc.I had varying results using these products but usually ended up with red, dry, acne covered skin. I have also been on prescription medications Minocycline, Clindamycin lotion and BenzaClin. I had been taking Minocycline and using BenzaClin for about 15 months. There was usually one "good" week right before my period that I didn't have huge red zits, then back to my moderate acne.

Well, here is what happened. I started taking Spirulina because a friend recommended it for weight loss. I started off taking 3 in the morning and 3 at night. I remember looking in the mirror and noticing how clear my skin was, even the blackheads were gone. "Hmmm, must be my good week lol." A week went by, and another week, and another week.....STILL NO ACNE! I completely ditched all those medications and have been using nothing but my Spirulina and a thin layer of OTC benzoyl peroxide at night.
Now one thing I will note: I have gone a week without it (I went on vacation, it didn't) and I broke out so bad!!! It works, but you have to keep taking it!

This is such a good product for you in general, and with the added acne relief, I plan on keeping a bottle handy! I totally recommend it for anyone who wants a good vitamin or struggles with acne!
