Dogs love it!,
By Tammy A. "Tammy" (Upstate, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nutri-Vet Enzymatic Chicken Flavored Canine Toothpaste, 2.5 Ounce (Misc.)
I bought this based on the 1 other review.I have never brushed my 1yr dog's teeth but since we had problems with our last dog who never had his teeth brushed and developed problems as well our 16+yr old cat who has problems I figured I'd try to do it right with this dog. She was hesitant with the toothbrush at first, but was intrigued when she got a taste of the chicken flavored toothpaste. The other review is correct, it is not messy or foamy. I tried using the bigger side of the toothbrush next and she loved it! Was kind of a game the way she would bite at it, and I would then scrub a little bit. This was a very first time experience and I know she will probably beg me to do it every day when I show her the brush. Give it a try, you can't beat the price, and it should help out with vet bills in the future!

THIS IS SUGAR PASTE!!!,
This review is from: Nutri-Vet Enzymatic Chicken Flavored Canine Toothpaste, 2.5 Ounce (Misc.)
Please read the ingredients, Dextrose, Glucose and Sorbitol are all SUGARS! Our previous vet had recommended the CET canine toothpaste and Enzyme coated chews for our Newfoundlands teeth. I made the big mistake of assuming he actually read the ingredients as he had recommended them. I just threw the remainders out. Buyer beware! Every canine toothpaste here on Amazon that lists their ingredients (who knows what's in the ones that don't list) has a sugar or more as main ingredients! I'll do some more searching before trying plan B of simply brushing with a little baking soda powder. Jody Koval

I got this stuff because the toothpaste from Petco smells like garbage. My dog actually likes this stuff and after I'm done brushing her teeth, she licks the toothbrush!

This product is not messy or foamy, the dogs appear to like the flavor, and it does an excellent job in keeping their teeth clean and gums healthy. Good buy, too.

The best I've found,
By
This review is from: Nutri-Vet Enzymatic Chicken Flavored Canine Toothpaste, 2.5 Ounce (Misc.)
I have three adult dogs and of all the toothpastes I've tried this is by far the best. They love the taste, it's non-foaming and not messy at all. When they see me get the toothpaste and brushes out they all sit down and can't wait for their turn to get their teeth brushed. I've found the trick is in brushing your dog's teeth is to start out the first few times by just letting them lick some of the paste off your finger then gradually brushing a little with a very soft tooth brush. With patience and a good enzymatic toothpast like this, your dogs will have healthy teeth and gums and you can avoid costly gum disease and tooth extractions.

I keep looking for a good tooth paste and still haven't found one yet. This was okay, dogs didn't dislike, just acted normal when getting teeth cleaned but did not see any improvements in tartar on their teeth. So I went ahead and bought a different kind at a pet store and trying that now. Gave 3 starts to this product since there was not any problems, yet I'm not completely satisfied.

So far so good...... Updated 3/15/10,

Even though the tube I rec'd was expired, the dog seems to like it!!! From what I have read, toothpaste that is past its expiration date has a slight loss of efficiency so....This tube expired on 4/15/09 so I am guessing that it should still work and quite frankly one cannot beat the price..... So..... Update: Reordered several tubes of this paste and to my pleasant surprise non of the tubes were expired. Add that to the dog liking the paste, I now give the product 5 out 5 stars. :)

Just to make sure you all understand these ingredients...I am a dental hygienist and even whipped out my old textbook Dental Hygiene Theory and Practice by Darby & Walsh. Here are the ingredients in this toothpaste and what these all do... Water: All toothpastes are made up of 5%-30% water. Sorbitol: This is a humectant (20%-70% of toothpaste). This is used to retain moisture in the toothpaste. Glycerin: Also a humectant (see above) Silica: Cleansing and polishing agent (10%-40% of toothpaste). This is an abrasive ingredient used to removed soft deposits (plaque) and stain. Dicalcium Phosphate: Also a cleansing and polishing agent (see above) Xanthan Gum: This is a binder (1%-2% of toothpaste). Binders are used as thickeners and prevent liquid and solids from separating in the toothpaste. Natural Flavor: This is the chicken flavor. Sodium Saccharin: This is a sweetener (2%-3% of toothpaste). Sodium Benzoate: Preservative (2%-3% of toothpaste). Preservatives are added to prevent mold and bacteria to grow and prolong the shelf life of the toothpaste. Glucose Oxidase: This is the antibacterial enzyme used to treat gingivitis. Just by researching all of these ingredients found in this toothpaste I would say it is a great toothpaste, it contains everything that our "human" toothpaste contains.

So the dentist says I do not brush my teeth enough. NOW I have to brush my dogs teeth too and write an essay about it to boot. When will I ever get to play Call of Duty.Wonderful incredible, fantastic transaction thank you. Now I will express my opinion that being forced to write a twenty word essay term paper is annoying and a waste of my time. I think people will not read reviews that have too much to say. Key words like "it works well, shipped quickly, etc" would be a much better option than to make me write an essay term paper. I purchase a VERY large quantity of items on Amazon and I am in favor of giving a quick review, but being forced to write twenty words is annoying, so I will copy and paste this to each review in order to save time. YES, it was a WONDERFUL transaction!, YES, wonderful..thank you. I would write a book if I didnt like the transaction.

Considering my dog loves chicken and also loves to chew on his toothbrush I figured he would love this chicken flavored toothpaste too. He hated it, and would not go near it so I eventually threw it away. Not so say the product isn't good. It just didn't work for my terrier.
