4.0 out of 5 stars Nutrition, It's good for you!, December 23, 2006
This review is from: Nutrition: An Applied Approach, MyPyramid Edition (MyNutritionLab Series) (Paperback)
This was a required text for my college nutrtion course. It was very useful and helpful for me when I wanted to learn how to combine foods for the most nutrient rich diet for my family. I have a young child and wanted to learn the best foods to optimize his health. There was a chapter specific to his age group, as well as chapters on nutrient needs for the pregnant and lacting mother. I was fascinated by the wealth of information this text provides. The authors need to review some of their end of chapter tests and be certain that they have answered correctly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same as 2nd edition. Save your money!, September 12, 2010
This review is from: Nutrition: An Applied Approach, MyPyramid Edition (MyNutritionLab Series) (Paperback)
I had my first class and the 1st edition seems to be identical to the newer edition. The questions are identical and it's only missing two very minor sections on Alcohol and Phytochemicals, which is easily found online. I recommend buying this cheaper alternative. As an update, I finished the course and I did great with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Nutrition made simple, January 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this book for a nutrition class this semester and it was simple. It included a copy of the Diet Analysis and allowed me to follow with my class even with the newer edition. I received an A in the class and it was mostly due to the book. In the back of the book there is a glossary of food items with their calories and vitamins which is very helpful for someone creating a healthful diet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook, July 4, 2009
This is an excellent textbook for anyone in a Nutrtion class, like myself, or for anyone who just wants to know more about nutrients and food and how they impact the body. It goes through each specific system in the body and details the nutients that support them, the diseases caused by deficiency and how heart disease, diabetes etc. develop. It also sheds light on some myths and common misconceptions. Forget the diet plans out on the market, this is the real deal. If you want to education yourself and improve your health, this book will tell you how and why and give you plenty of information to make great choices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Nutrition Book, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Nutrition: An Applied Approach, MyPyramid Edition (MyNutritionLab Series) (Paperback)
This is a very comprehensive nutrition book and a great resource for students or anyone wanting to learn about nutrition. I sold it but wish I would have kept it for both personal reasons and as a reference in nursing school. It also comes with a nice companion CD, My Diet Analysis that lets you track what you eat and see how it fits into a balanced diet. This alone is worth more than the cost of the book. There are great pictures too. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, March 23, 2007
By
Rebecca R. Wake (Knoxville, Tennessee) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is a fairly good introduction to the far-reaching study of nutrition. However there were a few very old-fashioned comments made about vegetarianism and veganism. The attitude towards these diets in light of all the emerging research that vegetarianism is one of the most healthful diets for the human body is rather archaic. The authors comment that one can survive on a vegetarian diet, but that a lot of caution needs to go into it when it is really very simple. They also argue that the vegan diet is deficient in many nutrients that are actually very easy to get. They also claim that the macrobiotic diet can lead to death and implied this potentially good diet should be avoided.
